A friend of mine wants to use his 6505 with IR. He was lurking on this box and asked me if it could work for his amp even if he does not push the volume. I must admit that I am pretty ignorant on many technical stuff so I'm not sure myself as the box delivers a 60w load. Do you think it's allright to use with 100/120w amps?

You could just stick a 1/8th to 1/4 inch jack into the return and it basically shuts off the power amp. Then go either preamp out or from the send into the interface. You'll still have to have it plugged into a cab though.

Thanks you! Another question: is there a risk for the amp and/or interface/computer to use this loadbox with his 6505?

If you keep the volume down on the master you should be fine. If you do run full tilt and the resistor burns open or shorts, that would be bad. It could blow up the output transformer.

If you really want to nerd out on this path, also look into "Reactive" load boxes. A speaker is not really a flat impedance like a resistor based load. Resistor based are more for like testing and such. But a speaker reacts differently.

There are some clips online that even with the same impulse, the reactive load had much more dynamic low-end.

Reactive loads are harder to find since they are more expensive to make.

Forgot to reply. My buddy got an answer from Koch and yeah, it's fine using a 120w amp if the volume is low. So I can loan him mines too.
