My most recent show, in Seattle, where I saw Ensiferum. I have pics; they'll be uploaded later. They played at a club called Studio 7.
I got there early on to claim a perch spot in the balcony.
Shaded Emnity (a local Seattle band) was excellent, and I said hi to Zach. I tried saying hi to Rob, but I kept on saying hi to the wrong person - sorry random person! All you blond, long haired men look alike! Musicwise, they have a very harsh sound with a little bit of prog influence. Very tight band.
I also liked Deathmocracy. Name made me roll my eyes a bit (AMERIKKKA!), but the music made up for it. And the lead singer had a great stage presence and a great mic! I loved that lit up, old style microphone! Again, a local Seattle band, and again, they love their prog - even more than Shaded Emnity.
Lazurus AD seemed to be the odd band out, but I have to give them props for having a good stage presence, and for being from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Seriously - Wisconsin, where I'm from, isn't exactly known for their metal at times, especially when I was growing up. Glad to see then coughing up good bands now. And, I liked their retro sound, it was a good break from blast beats Blast Beats BLAST BEATS!!!!1! all night.
Blackguard was just excellent, and I wished they had a longer set. I loved watching the keyboardist especially - his hair was wider than his shoulders! They improved a lot, and I was able to thank one of the members afterwards for the good show.
Ensiferum is a band I'm not that familiar with, as I was looking forward to SE and Hypocrisy. But, US Customs seens to be thrown off by names with umlauts in them, so no Peter Tägtgren for us. But, I liked Ens. They seemed to be a letdown for me after the energy of Blackguard, however. I also had a beer spill on my purse, so I decided to call it a night towards the end of their set, and headed out to catch the train home.
Overall, an excellent show, and much better than my Mayhem experience a few months ago. (I wasn't feeling well that day and couldn't get into it.) Usually, in a show like this, there is one or two bands that I just can't stand. Not this show - they may not have been the style I liked, but I liked all the bands on the bill.
