Love of Live (part två)

Týr are very good live! in fact i became their fan after i have seen them live. Seen them thrice this year, and wouldn't mind to see again soon :) so definitely hurrah for you ;)

I was the same way.

I saw them a couple of years ago, and they stood out among the rest of the bands playing, like Turisas and Ensiferum. They didn't have that 'party' vibe going, and the rest of the crowd didn't seem to know what to make of them. But, after that show was over, their modal and dissonant melodies were the ones that stuck in my head the longest.

Then I bought some of their CDs. And liked some of the songs. I found them beautiful and challenging.

Then I saw Týr live again, this time on a headlining tour. Then I got hooked. They're coming back in January, and I cannot wait. I still have to buy a couple of their older CDs. But yes. They're now up there in my Top 5 of bands. Hail Týr!

cool, almost the same story here. Except that i was so disappointed with their 2009 release, i believe i haven't listened to it anymore since i got it, back in june... i think their absolute best is Eric the Red. 3/4 of it is totally brilliant! it's so good, that the new release simply pales in comparison.

The 2009 release grows on you. I got it when it first came out, and found it weird yet dull. But, like all things Tyr, you give it some time and it grows on you.

Oh, definitely definitely go! It'll be an experience!

Týr and Korpiklaani aren't that popular on this side of the pond, but those of us who love them *really* love them. I seriously haven't stopped listening to Tyr's latest release since I got it a few months ago!

OK, I'll definitely go! I have listened a bit to Týr, but not much. Of Korpiklaani I like the first albums, the new ones are too boring and basically the same Humpa stuff as in the previous ones.

But, I can't wait!!!!

awwww sorry  when i'm so glad and excited i cannot stop bragging until the whole world knows :oops: i know i shouldn't but can't help it :saint:

Hey I'm exactly the same, so don't worry about it, no real need to apologise :p . Besides, you deserve the bragging, those are great bands you're going to see :kickass: .

I feel the same way about Korpiklaani. Frankly, I wish they would have kept singing in Sami. I can listen to their Shaman stuff all day long - but the newer Korpi music bores me. A day without Sami joik is a day without sunshine.

ok i'm still recovering from Eindhoven Metal Meeting last sat. :zombie: 12 hours worth of black metal + getting home the next day was a real adventure!! the weather (-8 deg.C on sat., a bit warmer yesterday and heavy heavy snowfall) made the dutch railway almost nonfunctional! I feel like i got cold, i hope it's not swine flu... o_O

lineup: Satyricon, Nile, Entombed, Thyrfing, Equilibrium, Shining, Krisiun, Impaled Nazarene, Legion of the Damned, Deströyer 666, Hollenthon, Grave, Skyforger, Merauder, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Elite, The Devil's Blood, Ulcerate, Hackneyed, Serpentcult, Devious, Posthum and Genetic Wisdom.

Of these i saw: Satyricon, Nile (2-3 tracks), Thyrfing, Equilibrium, Shining, Legion of the Damned (1 track), Grave (1 track), Skyforger, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Hackneyed (1 track), Serpentcult (1 track). I must say that i'm not really a fan of any of these bands. But i wanted to see those huge names live i haven't seen before...

We didn't want to stand close when Kvarforth would start cutting himself during Shining but it wasn't that bad at all. I was told later that he was stricktly forbidden to do that, so he did a one quick cut anyway across his body and covered it with his shirt before you even could see any blood. Instead, he went kissing with his bassist at which point people threw beer and cups at them  some were really pissed, i thought it was funny :D The music was nice, i knew i would like them, but their attention seeking behaviour is the reason i've never listened to them...

Didn't like Equilibrium that much, i thought they were pretty boring.

Skyforger have disappointed by the absence of any folk instruments  the guy that usually plays flutes, whistles and bagpipes wasn't there at all! stripped of the folk BM was still good though, but not the same ... :(

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult is something what my bf insisted on seeing, i never heard of them before. Ohmy, what a performance! o_O The blond girl with hair nearly sweeping the floor, with full corpse paint drinking blood and spitting it onto the audience, shrieking like a harpy - the sight in itself was worth it! the sound was totally crap, guitars turned into a wall of noise.

The big hall was totally packed for Nile. As none of us was really a fan, we just watched them play 2-3 tracks and left. I wasn't impressed, well maybe only by the audience (at the back) of 40-something shorthaired men singing along all the lyrics and headbanging o_O

Then there was Satyricon. The absolute highlight of the day! The sound was incredibly good, the band was totally energetic, the crowd was going mad!! :headbang: I hardly heard a song of theirs before, but i was really impressed by their live performance! They rocked!! :kickass:i think i'll even become a fan maybe :D

Right after Satyricon, almost everybody left to see Deströyer 666 playing at the smaller stage, or to catch the last train. It was pure shame to see something like 1/3 of the crowd for Thyrfing!! :erk: man i feel sorry for the band, they were great!! they even took a female vocalist with them and had to play for half empty hall! :bah: I've seen them live earlier this year, and they were as good again, probably even better because of the girl! :headbang:

Here're a few pictures i took during the day.

^ Great!

WTF is up with Shining? So he guy actually cuts himself? Then made out with the bass players? Are both men or what?

So you didn't see Hollenthon? Heresy!!! Bad Elvina, bad. In general I feel that you didn't enjoy it that much (the festival in general), or am I wrong?

Oh, I forgot to add that I might be seeing Exodus (and Arch Enemy and Arsis), all I can say is:

 yes they are both men :p well i dunno, but they tell me the guy cuts himself every single time they play live!! o_O there allegedly been time(s) he was taken to the hospital with huge loss of blood sometime... i think he's pretty disturbed but the music is good i hear... :(

haven't seen Hollenthon because they would be playing during the "afterparty", somewhere around 2:30 A.M. Thyrfing was finished around 1:30 A.M. so we would have to wait an hour doing nothing! :ill::zzz: Having started at 2 P.M., we were really in no condition to do that, we were almost falling asleep where we stood... so we figured it wasn't really worth it and left (there were probably only something like 20 people who stayed anyway...)

no, i really really enjoyed the day, but i was completely exhausted at the end! Satyricon and Thyrfing were really fckin awesome, and the whole day was tons of fun! :headbang::kickass:i'm glad i was there!! :hotjump:

Went to see Scott Kelly last night. I'm not really familiar with his solo project, but as a huge fan of Neurosis I knew I should check it out anyway. And what a great night it turned out to be :) Beautiful acoustic music in a small cozy venue, and afterwards he came off the stage to talk to his fans (about 25 people showed up) and signed stuff, including my poster
Really glad I went, was the first concert in 2010 for me, and next in line is something completely different: Sunn O))), in exactly one week.

The upcoming weekend is going to be pretty awesome. Taake on Friday, and Hurra Torpedo on Saturday.

Oh, and Shining (Swe) is awesome, but I don't know how I would react to seeing Kvarforth cutting himself.

i went to see deathrow yesterday night...
OMG hilarity and hallucinations
i'm still laughting.....something similar to the twilight zone TV serie

Just saw Hypocrisy yesterday in Hamburg (first show on tour) and I'm seeing them again today in Berlin.
The band was giving a good show, long and varied setlist (approx. 1½ hour), but the sound was horrendous! Still a good concert though.

Survivors Zero (Finland) and Drone (Germany) were supporting. Drone was in on last minute as Hatesphere dropped out of the entire tour. They were quite good, can't say the same for Survivors Zero though... Not my cup of tea at least...

Taake was alright, the venue was really tiny, and the stage was only about 15 cm taller than the floor where we stood. Also, I don't remember much of it. :erk:

Now, Hurra Torpedo, that's a fucking awesome live band. It's like getting kicked in the mouth by a kitchen.

So I finally saw Sunn O))) last night.
It is without a doubt the loudest and heaviest live experience I've ever witnessed. Good thing they were giving away earplugs for free at the entrance (could've also used the ones I brought myself, but those were old and smelled nasty), but during the show I noticed some people weren't using any, and some others walked away shortly after they started playing with their ears fully covered :)
Maybe the singer, Attila (from Mayhem) couldn't quite handle the extreme volume either, cause at some point when he was kneeling and stood up again, he lost balance and then tripped over the fog machine, straight into the audience! It didn't look like he was injured, but he didn't return for the rest of the show.
I really like their latest album, but was disappointed to find out they don't play their songs live the way it's on the studio album, just little pieces from here and there. Still very glad I went, and I would really recommend anyone who's into (any kind of) heavy music to check them out when they're in the neighbourhood.

yesterday i went to see hate+incantation.
i had fever so i don't remember that much...only that hate had sadly played few songs, like 30 minutes of show. incantation had a delay of about 4 hours so the show had running-order problems.
incantation, well, i only heard them, i was on the cough with friends trying not to die!
but hate did a great show, very powerful and brutal.:headbang:
