Love of Live (part två)

back from ufomammut's show. they are an italian drone/stoner/psychadelic band, i've been told they are pretty famous outside italy, here they are quite know but certainly not superstars :p
impressions:
1. i'm definitely not programmed for drone....
2. never trust the italian's starting times, the flyer said 8 p.m. the venue opened at 11, the first group started at 00.00 and ufomammut at 1 a.m....but being us very clever people :)lol:) and aware that the venue will never open at 8, we reached the place a 10.30....
3. i had a pleasant times watching them , but i'm sure a cannot survive to listen them on a cd. the concert was great, cool scenography with a projector that broadcaster psychadelic images, nice lights, great powerful sounds, great musicians....
but the songs are way to similar each other, and very monotone and iterative, that's why i don't like this genre. but live they are a great band, very hypnotic, thanks also to very low pitches sounds....there was a moment when i litteraly went in a trance :p

Just came from Megadeth, and I'm totally dissapointed, the gig was a total fiasco IMO. Mustaine has never sung. He has a horrible voice, but the sound of his mic, combined with the former and his age, made a horrendous combination. Sometimes I could never hear the his voice.

seen Negură Bunget, Svartsot, Fen, The Stone and The Way of Purity last sunday, on their Spirit of the Land tour, in Baroeg, Rotterdam, NL...

First off, never been at that venue before and was surprised how tiny it was! And even so, the crowd was small and there was much space which shocked me even more, as i had expected many more people would show up...

The Way of Purity was horrendous, The Stone were ok (cool stage outfits! :headbang:)

I expected Svartsot to play the third, but then i heard the familiar BM riffs during the soundcheck and was like 'omg this is FEN!!' They looked nothing like what i'd expected, very young (at least to me) and normal :-D
They played great, although the sound in the beginning was not all too good, but it got better later. I believe they only played 4 songs!! :'( waaaay too short a set, even if one of the songs was a new previously unreleased one, like 10-12 min long... here's one of the 2 songs i filmed:

Svartsot played next, and were a pleasant surprise for me. I went for Fen and Negura, didn't care much about Svartsot - last time i saw them (in 2008 i believe) they didn't impress me at all. So i didn't expect much this time either, maybe that's why i quite liked them! Or maybe because of the new lineup... I'm not familiar with their music other than from that live show, so i think i should check them out! :)
Besides, they seemed misplaced in this tour, especially squeezed between 2 atmospheric BM bands :S Judging from the shouts on the event page, i was one of the very few ones who actually enjoyed their performance :-(
Here's a vid i filmed:

Negura played the last, and they were absolutely mind-blowing!! :worship: The hell of a difference with the last time i saw them (aug. 2009) when they played for the second time ever with their new lineup... It's amazing how this band has improved and matured since that time!! o_O While they played very good last time too, they looked very nervous and n00b then, but now they looked very professional and self confident! They played a lot of new tracks, and while on the album it doesn't sound all too impressive at times because of the awful production, the live versions were splendid! I certainly recommend everybody who likes pagan BM to go and see those guys live, they are playing lots of gigs in may!
Already can't wait for october 21 when they come back to NL to play together with Enslaved themselves!! :headbang::worship:

Past may 1st I was at the Richie Kotzen gig. There was a guitar shredders competition with controversial results. T'was awfully boring.

Kotzen played almost strictly radio-friendly blues, just at the end he played 1 song from Mr Big and a more rock oriented song. He looked pissed off, mostly cause the competition had several sound problems, thus it took too much time to end.

The best moment of the night was going to eat a fucking huge 'italiano' (a hot dog with tomato, mayonese and avocado). 0.75kg of pure trash, yet awesome food (I usually eat really healthy).

i'm going to see frostmoon eclipse tonight.
it's a shame i've never seen them live till now, because they are one of the best italian black metal bands, and above all because 3 members out of 4 are friends of mine
but they always play soooo fucking far from where i live, even if two members live in my same region and the other two in the region adjacent to mine....so i never had the chance to see their shows.

this is their myspace ( doing some pubblicity :))

i'm going to see Sear Bliss tonight! :headbang: i suspect there won't be many people there... one of the most underrated atmospheric BM bands i know that has been around for more than 15 years!! :erk: i really don't understand why they're so unknown because their music is amazing! ♥

on a side note: i've now given up hope to see Borknagar playing live any time soon... lesson learned: take any band's words with a huge pint of salt.

What do you mean with that? As far as I know they didn't have any plans to play more shows yet.
And it kind of depends how you define "soon", I mean, last year they announced the September mini-tour in June, that's a pretty short period of time inbetween if you ask me.

i mean not only live shows but everything they've been promising: about the new album, about the new merchandise, about new live shows, about dvd... Some of those promises were very bold, others very vague, some were more like hints. Some were just not true (like the album, but that's a matter of taste of course), others might yet happen in the future, it's just non of my expectations have been fulfilled. I see that we keep asking the same questions over and over again which are just being ignored. Yes, i'm bitter and very disappointed. :erk:

But you're right about last year, i somehow had a feeling i already knew about the september shows in may, but it was probably june... Maybe there is still some hope, i just somehow don't believe it anymore...

The members of Borknagar are people with things to do, not puppets that dance to your tune.

Last Sunday I saw Down/Iris/AC/DC in Bucharest. It was a cool show but I`m a little pissed of because Down was the first opening band of course I went there to see them. I think they deserve more than to be the first opening band with more play time. I`m not a big fan of AC/DC but they still rock.
Two funny moments: the first was 300 toilets for 50000 strong, between the Iris and AC/DC the people went to piss, firstly they stood in line in front of the toilets till the first men who couldn`t hold went to the bush after that it was kind of a gold rush everybody started to piss all over the bushes, they pissed everywhere. in nearly half an hour we find ourselves at the edge of a great lake.
The second moment was to see a lot of people buying AC/DC horns (at least every second man bought it) and these horns was flickering all night at the AC/DC show.

Saw Bonaparte und Soulfly yesterday.

Bonaparte has the weirdest show I've ever seen. Some crazy guys. But one has to like it ;)

Soulfly played Roots Bloody Roots and Chaos A.D. and also Pantera's Walk for short time inbetween parts. So I was very content*:)
