Love of Live (part två)

Just got home from an unexpected trip to Sweden Rock Festival. I was only there the last day and there were really only two bands that I wanted to see:
Watain - 5 out of 5
Guns N' Roses - 3½ out of 5

How was Gn'R? They were going to play here, but the whole thing became a fiasco. They're actually suing a bunch of people (including Axel) because the concert wasn't carried out. I hate Gn'R, what a lousy band, they barely have one good album, but still are incredibly popular (even nowadays, without Slash ).

Hehe, well I am (I guess) quite the fanboy:). I'm assuming you're referring to "Appetite..." being barely good. I actually like the Illusion-albums way more and have no problem with the original members being gone. It's always been Axl's show IMO and I will always adore the man's voice. Sure, the guy is a major a-hole and I thought he would cancel the show at Sweden Rock (they were "only" 45 minutes late) but they did their thing.

It wasn't the best show I've ever seen, but I knew that I was in for some damn boring points during the gig what with the endless solos and horrible covers (somebody please eradicate "Live and let die" from the planet!). But those points are good for beer-drinking IMO. My friends complained a lot about the guitarplayers being Slash-wannabees that just copied his stuff straight off but that doesen't bother me. I was there for one reason: to hear that douchebag William Axl Rose do some amazing shit with his voice to some very good songs and that's what I got. They even played my new favourite "ballad" "This I Love" from the new record as well as some not-so-good stuff from that one. I'm also very glad they did "Rocket Queen" to perfection.
All-in-all, a solid performance, but nothing that will be going into any history pages...

You're, without doubt, a Gn'R fanboy. It's funny that you mentioned Axl singing because the guy doesn't sing, he just talks and varies a note every now and then. Only 45 min? They did one in Perú (I think), and it was three hours, so you certainly were lucky. Some people are still waiting for the gig here, right outside the stadium! The poor idiots think that the gig is still on, and it's already been two months!

(j/k).

This saturday I'll go to see Mar de Grises + Poema Arcanvs + 2 other doom metal bands.

Perpetuum and Desire of Pain i think....a friend of mine will arrange the sound of Poema Arcanvs, unfortunately I can not be there, coz i have some pre-scheduled commitments

So...enjoy that very nice bands Allfader!...

Wow, just returned home from a long run with two Serj Tankian shows and two festivals; Metalcamp and Magic Circle Festival.

Both Tankian shows were speical ones where he played with a symphony orchestra, the first one in Berlin and the second one in Milano.
I have posted a review of the first one at our site (under articles, as no photos were allowed) and the next one will be up (with photos) as soon as possible...
We'll also be posting reviews of both festivals and individual band reviews as soon as I can get through all the work I've worked up

So, in reality I have no time hanging out in here, he he... Checking in later though!

So, we've finally posted our reviews of Metalcamp and Magic Circle Festival at the site. Bear in mind these are straight up festival reviews, and as such contains no review parts of the music, as every band will get their own review as soon as we get around to it. Still, I hope it makes for a fun read-through, so feel free to check them out, ok? :)

yeaaahhhhh concert season have reopened for me!
not that i'm already on holiday but i'm much less busy than the previous months so i was able to go to 2 concerts in the last 2 weeks, which is pretty incredible since it was 3 months that i was struck in here....

last saturday i went to see dark lunacy, an italian death metal band, but not really classic, they have some gothic vein, melodic inserts, a lot of keyboards and stuff.

yesterday i went to see rock hard festival, where played gama bomb, exciter, tygers of pan tang, grave digger and sodom.
i was there above all for exciter and sodom....
now my feet hurt and i'm trying to keep myself awake since i got home at 4 and now i'm at work :p but it was a great time, also for company since i was there with some of my best friends and i met a lot of people that live far from me and concerts are the only occasions where we can meet on half way!
the journey back home was something i should call delirious. :loco:

i've never seen hypocrisy, and that's bad.
they have never come to italy in the last 4-5 years, and i'm really hoping this will happen someday.
tomorrow i'm probably going to heidenfest. well, the line up isn't one of my favourite, it's pretty embarassing they decided to put the bathory's coverband as headliner, even if the members are all from famous bands.
there will play equilibrium, swashbuckle ( i don't know who theyt are) ensiferum and heidevolk which are my favourite band among those.

edit. well ok, it's not tomorrow, but thursday. don't know why i was sure tomorrow was the 30th

Really? Wow, pretty surprising; especially that they haven't been to Italia in such a long time. Perhaps due to the promoters?

Swashbuckle is a good band, nothing new, but they're lots of fun. I saw them in Canada, they're basically Death/Thrash with… pirate costumes :p  . Check my FlickR, there're a couple of pictures there.

Wow....even me, living in the ass of the world, saw Hypocrisy.
They werw here 2004 if remember well.
And i saw them one month ago on the Summer Breeze.
They still rocking :p

saw them on sept.19, but i somehow just couldn't be bothered to tell the tale... in few words: I love Ensiferum, and they were great as always! ♥ the young crowd went mad, as always too :kickass::headbang: Surprisingly, i liked Equilibrium this time (was the 3rd or even 4th time i saw them?) and i am not even familiar with their music other than what i've heard live all this times :D So, it seemed they have improved or something, or i just got used to them?

We missed Heidevolk because by some stupid reason they played first... :S Swashbuckle was an absolute nightmare!! :guh: the worst band i have heard in a loooooong time, not to mention that dressed up parrot that have been running around on stage (which btw has turned out to be Dani of Alestorm) :puke:

Twighlight of the Gods (all-star Bathory tribute band, consisting of Alan Nemtheanga (Primordial), Blasphemer (Ava Inferi, Aura Noir, ex-Mayhem), Frode Glesnes (Einherjer), Nick Barker (Benediction, ex-Dimmu Borgir and more) and Patrik Lindgren (Thyrfing). ) were indeed the headliners, after 2/3 of the Ensiferum crowd has left. They were very intense, especially the Primordial vocalist, but unfortunately they played mostly Bathory's BM tracks, rather than the viking tracks which i personally prefer... The opinions are very divided about their performance: the young generation believes that "a cover-band" shouldn't be the headliner of the tour with such party bands as Swashbuckle, Equilibrium, Ensiferum and Heidevolk, while the more serious and older metalheads were getting goosbumps at hearing legendary Bathory songs performed by (relatively) famous folk/viking metal musicians...

I have also a couple of Ensiferum vids and one of TotG, but it still needs to be uploaded yet...

the festival was nice! but the only band that worthed 6 hours of car was heidevolk and they played a ridicolous time, half-hour
they started to play exactly when i finished to pay the ticket and fortunatly there were no people waiting in line to enter so i didn't miss anything from them exception made for the first 2 or 3 notes.
they were great, sounds were a little bit low but quite good.
they played some of my favourite songs like wodan herst and vulgaris magistralis.
then played swashbuckle, they are absurd! ahahah very funny, not my cup of tea but the show was entertaining.
then it was equilbrium's turn. i really liked them, the new singer is a little bit poser but they are ok!
i had already seen ensiferum 3 or 4 times, and to be honest, they are worser everytime. not that they play bad, but everytime they choose an higher number of newer songs which i don't like so much.
twilight of the gods have a been a total disappointment. but i suspected it from the beginnig.
it's weird to have a cover band as headliner, even if there are some famous people it's still a bathory coverband. and a bad cover band. some songs were slaughtered, some very beautiful songs not played. as elvina said, half of the crow left before them, and the other half remained a little bit frustrated under the stage, me included.

^ Sucks! Seems as if the trip wasn't worth, at all. And for a six-hour-trip, that's pretty horrible.

Told you, Swashbuckle is lots of fun. They're not great, but they make an entertaining show, which is, in their case, what counts.

Me? Oh Hypocrisy was great, as usual Svenska bands have a great stage presence. To be honest DT and Arch Enemy (as much as I hate the latter) are much better live. Nevertheless, Hypocrisy was great live, and I enjoyed the gig a lot. I even did some body surfing! Oh but damn, when I fell I hit a metal bar with my bottom. Oh that still hurts, I can barely sit down… nor stand up, which is pretty horrible :( . I looked at it yesterday (;)), and it's all black :Buah: .

I waited for almost two hours after the gig, but it was worth it:

Me with Horgh

With Horgh!!! And he signed my Immortal CD (SND)! Peter also signed it, since he produced it. That, friends, I believe, is brilliant, since it's not every day that one can get an Immortal CD signed. I'll post a pic later. Overall, I'm very happy with the Hypo (hiccup?) gig!

I'll see Therion in a couple of weeks too. To be honest, I've very low expectations, the new CD is simply awful (couldn't finish listening to it to be honest…). It'll be the third time I see them, and nothing will ever beat that incredible gig in London. (See: http://www.flickr.com/photos/josephy/417952791/in/set-72157600050301894/ ). Not eager, at all.
