Love of Live (part två)

2 hours and a half is a normal/avarage journey for me. all the best concerts take place in Milano which is exactly that distance from me....
i'm lucky if something happens in Bologna which is at 2 hours from here....

do you have only gas? just think that we have to pay also motorway-tickets which are really expensive (about 20 € to go and 20 € to return) :ill:

5 hour drive? and I thought I had it rough with my 2.5 hour journey. Lars was all like "wow you must have really wanted to see us if you drove from all the way down there!". damn right!

Now if only gas was a bit cheaper here in Holland.. :(

i always offer to split the costs if there only ever was a nice person who would be willing to drive us (2 people) home to Amersfoort (or at least, to Utrecht)... i mean if you're alone and drive there anyway it would be 2-3 times cheaper for you... and now you complain about the fuel cost, i complain about the cold night spent at the Leeuwarden train station... oh well you were probably going other direction anyway :p bad luck

I'm from The Hague, so yes dropping you and your friend off in Amersfoort would have meant a big detour for me :erk:
Very brave of you by the way, if I had to choose between spending a night at the train station in a town that's totally unknown to me, or paying €1,36 / liter for fuel but sleeping in my own nice comfy bed at home that very same night.. I'd pay up and go for the fuel.

Lefay: I meant gasoline!

man that is a great review! thnx! i would have gotten extremely jealous and upset after reading that if i haven't seen and experienced almost exactly the same myself! you bring back a warm fuzzy feeling to my heart :D

Just wait till you see the full one with the photos! Actually, I don't know how they turned out yet, the lights were far from great...

Oh, the drive wasn't the hard part, just hooked myself up to a lot of Red Bull. The biggest downpoint was going to work without a second of sleep in between... And then the party in the evening, man I got drunk fast!

Lefay: I meant gasoline!

yes i know. i wanted to say that here motorways are not free. we have pay tickets which are very expensive. so we have to add the cost of tickets to the cost of fuel, that's why i was asking if you have to pay only the fuel...

@lefay: i believe what you mean is called a toll. I thought we don't have them here in NL, or at least very few ones (? i might be wrong but i can't remember any...) To pay 20 euro for a toll?? :ill: that's sick! i believe when we were in Franse they costed something like 1,50 - 2 euro...

@Azzor: yeah that's what i thought that you were from A-dam or The Hague... anyway, 6 hours at the station is not the biggest sacrifise i had to pay to see a band  I used to be a die hard a-ha fan, and drove 6 hour to Nuernberg, walked 2 hours to the festival site (Rock am Ring it is called i believe?), waited entire day in the rain in +3 deg. C in june (!!!) with barely a shirt on, was almost crushed in the crowd under the pouring rain during their show, walked 2 hours to the parking place afterwards, and drove another 6 hours back home - all because this was their comeback show after the 7 year splitup!!!:lol: If Arcturus is coming back next year, i'm prepaired to endure twice as much to see them live again!!! :worship:rock::worship:

@tobz: would love to see the photos!

yes, maybe toll is the right word.
i used the word ticket 'cause you have to take a ticket when you enter the motorway and when you're going to leave it you have to stop and pay giving back that ticket to a person who is there to take money from travellers.
prices depend on how many kilometers you have done with your car, if you do something like 20 km it's about 2 €, but if you do long travels the price increase. for example from here to Milano you have to pay exactly 18 € because you have done 250 km.

I'm just back from watching Unexpect, Bigelf, Opeth and Dream Theater!
Unexpect were interesting. Very chaotic and the bassist played a 9(?)-stringed bass. Awesome!
Bigelf were like Genesis in the early 70s. Almost a perfect copy -> boring!
Opeth were cool as fuck but their gig was way too short. Only 6 songs. But at least they played Harlequin Forest <3.
Dream Theater are still posers but nice to see live. I used to be a huge fan but I amn't anymore. But their gig was still magnificent!

i was supposed to go see them on my birthday 7th oct. but i'm not going anymore... 75 euro for the worst spot in the venue to see Opeth?? fuck that!!

as much as i love them and i haven't ever seen them live yet, this is just insane!

i'm glad you did have good time! :headbang:

I know exactly what you mean. For 200km I have to pay something like 16€, but I believe that in Portugal salaries are much smaller than in Italy. Anyway, it's quite rare to have decent bands here, so I don't have to travel much for concerts. Just vacations. :)
I can say that I never saw any of my current favorite bands live, and I never had the chance. At least now I'm (finally) finishing my studies and I will need to get myself into the wild for Enslaved, Borknagar, Vintersorg, maybe Arcturus, and others.
And, of course, I still need to visit (a lot of) european countries. The priority is Scandinavia.

75€??? I only paid 49€ and that was the standard price.

There is no interesting gig around lately, but I'll play live today.

¡Suerte!

And that's pretty expensive for just one band anyhow. Or were there more?

I'll see Depeche Mode next Thursday, I can't wait!!!! I really love DM, I've always been quite the fan :kickass: .

75 euro for the worst spot, meaning that the standing area at the stage would cost even more!! That was for Bigelf, Unexpect, Opeth and Dream Theater. Don't know Bigelf, don't care about Dream Theater, curious to see Unexpect because the girl is quite a character, but it is safe to say the only i really care about is Opeth. And i won't pay so much just to see them, it's just wrong.

Would love to see DM myself (but also not for that kind of price :p)

We could choose our spot freely and there were only a few people, no fences or whatever. And there have been people from the Netherlands, too, so I suppose they fled from the horrible pricing! :D
But Opeth just played 6 songs so 49€ would have been way too much. Not to speak of 75€!

Ah well for me it'd only be to see uneXpect, so that might be a bit too much. UneXpect is great, I "know" the guys, they sent me all their CDs signed :D .

And I can't wait for Depeche Mode, in a way I've been (unconsciously) waiting for this since I was about 6 years old. Ahhhh yes I remember being on the bus going to my Haus and listening to "Enjoy the Silence" :) :) .

Wow if that happened here someone might have been killed. Only 6 songs? What's up with that? Are those 30 minute songs or what?

oh shit...i forgot to review the finntroll concert.
well, i'm not good in reviewing, so i'll post some photos which are more in my skills
anyway the show was great and the crown really enjoyed it. the only bad thing has been the sound. the keybords were hardly listenable, and if you changed your position under the stage (as i did) you couldn't hear some instruments on the left and some other on the right :erk:
but he setlist was fine. they played both old and new tracks. some old classics like rivfader, blodnatt, kitteldags, aldhissla, svartberg, and some of the newest like korpens saga, nedgång, eh mäktig här, trollhammaren, nattfödd.
there played also two italian band before them, one called rosae crucis where a friend of mine plays. they do a sort epic metal sung in italian
and the other group was no more fear which played a nice melodic death metal.
