Their song "The Widow" is on the radio a lot. I fucking love that song. But as far as the rest of their stuff goes ... it's a policy of mine never to listen to bands whose names start with "The"

Well, I love the Mars Volta. They definitely present some interesting progressive tendencies and zap a little life into it as well. Which, as even the most hardcore progger knows, progressive music needs.

i don't care who their fan base is. i just dig it. but i ahte when people say its completely unique and new. its not its fuckin prog rock. and its good prog rock too!

WD is a MUCH better singer than MV's. he is good but he sorta sticks with the upper range. i'm also a fan of some at the drive-in stuff (way before mars volta formed too) and its similar vocal style with the addition of shitty screams. i think mars volta suites him much better. he has good stage prescence though from what i've seen in live videos

Yes, definitely not completely new or unique, but they do some things that other progressive bands wouldn't, so it gives it a nice, interesting feel to it.
