Marshall JMP-1

Listen to Judas Priest - Painkiller, thats all JMP So is Glen Tiptons solo album Baptism Of Fire, he ran the JPM direct into the board for BOF, and for Painkiller I believe it was a Marshall EL34 100 Power amp into a 1960a 4x12

I'm more interested in modern sounds to be honest. I just read up on the Deftones, and saw their guitarists uses one... that's kind of where I'm coming from. I'd just be interested to hear what Sneapsters have done with it I guess.

Marbles: Sounds really tight and defined to me. I quite like the tone you've got there. Same for the VMOD stuff - defined tone, where you can hear all the notes.

What was the power section you used; or just straight into the input on your soundcard, and then into impulses?

EXACTLY what I was going for. I wanted to use some ugly chords with my C7 Hellraiser and I wanted everything to be crystal-clear. I don't think I used a Tubescreamer with those recordings, the JMP1 can be REALLY gainy if you're not careful. I just went Guitar -> JMP1 -> Master Out into my Firestudio, added impulses/EQ. The Master Out sounds the exact same as if you plugged straight in, loaded up Nick Crow's 7170, and didn't add an impulse. Except.. well, better.

The secret: Change the tubes out. There's only two 12AX7s, but they make a big difference. Those recordings were all done with Groove Tubes 12AX7Cs in both slots. Since then, I've experimented with two GT 12AX7R2s, one 12AX7R2 and a Tung Sol, a 12AX7B, some stock Mesa tubes, Mullards, etc. They will all round your tone out in various directions. The Cs have been the least gainy while still being hotter than balls.

I've got an X-Amp. Give me some DI guitar and ask for some settings and I'll give it to you. These are your options:

-Tubescreamer's Secret, Ibanez TS9 pedal, or nothing
-4 channels: Clean 1, Clean 2, OD1, or OD2
-Gain 0 to 20
-Bass -6 to 6
-Mid -6 to 6
-Treble -6 to 6
-Presence -6 to 6
-Bass shift on or off
-Impulse, Nebula, or nothing

Hook it up with links to some DIs and gimme some settings, and I'll hook it up with some samples.

I think the Fear Factory album Archetype was recorded with a JMP-1. The tone isn't great, but I think it at least illustrates the potential the JMP-1 has for metal.

Hey man! Sorry for the delay. I've been busy getting ready for my trip to Japan which starts tomorrow! I've got some DI's here:

This is a track I've been writing called Sungazer, and I'd be really interested to know how it sounds through your JMP-1. I don't really have much in the way of guidelines for the JMP itself.... just try a high gain sound with plenty of clarity and note definition - basically whatever sounds best to you. But try it without a TS and some Impulses would be cool - guitarhack or Redwirez.. whatever you've got.

Just curious to hear how this kind of thing translates to the JMP.

Here is the tone I wrote the song with: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/630473/Sun Gazer.mp3

I'm on the edge of buying used JMP-1. If someone could post samples of the JMP-1 clean or mildly distorted sounds (recorded through impulse) that would be greatly appreciated. Also JMP-1 od channel with single coil strat (yngwie style) would be nice to hear.

I already have Ada Mp-1 and Engl E530 preamps, so heavy metal department is covered.
