Marshall JVM series

Heard some good clips and alot of folk seem to think they're the best Marshalls that have been made for years. Quite fancy one but I already have a DSL so it'll be a while before I pick one up.

I went with a buddy to a store yesterday (Thomann) and he was basically dead set on getting a 6505. We've eventually tried out the 50 watts model of the JVM... and damn, good bye 6505!

This thing siiiiings. Awesome note-definition, cuts very very well, quite versatile etc. I'm impressed!

We did some a/b-ing with a JCM 2000 and 2203KK (among others). No contest!

i've just been looking at these recently, i have to say i'm tempted. I tried one in GAK once with some nice guitars there, it was amazing! Bit of a nogo for people in the states though coz of the price

Yep, they do the Marshall thing very well and have tons of options. I would consider buying one again, but would pick up the two channel version.

I had the 50W version for a couple of weeks, totally useless for what I intended to use it for (heavy seventies rock).
Plus that it wasnt near loud enough to cut through at rehearsals.

I think that the 100W version might be better though since it has two "higher gained" channels and a bit more power.

FTR, there are 4 varieties of JVM out there, the 2-channels and 4-channels can both be had in 50- or 100-watt versions. Felix on here has posted awesome clips of his JVM205, so I dig it! Still, I'm thinking I'm just not really a fan of the upper-mid voicing of Marshalls from all I've heard, I think I prefer the lower mid bark of Oranges for the British sound...that's a tentative opinion that might change with more experience, but so far it hasn't been challenged

I'm biting my ass a bit that I didn't check out the Orange Rocker 30 or 50. Anyone got some experience with those?

I'll probably be picking up another head soon, and so far it's down to:

- JVM 205
- Orange Rocker 30
- Bogner Alchemist

I'm wondering if an Alchemist could take me into the same gain territory like the JVM or Rocker...

I think I've fallen in love. That's all.

Discuss!

I´m still in love :) I got the JVM205H with a recti 4x12 and I totaly made my bed. I love this JVM sound! Check "Gunman´s Poem" on my page..(my signature) = Pure Marshall JVM205 POWER!

Thanks a lot, Marcus :kickass: I´m glad, you liked it :)

No doubt Felix, Gunman's Poem is the shit!

And Slash, I'm not too keen on the Alchemist both cuz a) it marks Bogner selling out to Chinese mass-production (via those temptresses at Line 6 :D) and more importantly b) I haven't heard good things about its tonez. Check out this thread:

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/equipment/442365-bogner-alchemist.html

And FYI, in case you didn't know, the Rockerverb 30 has EL84's, whereas the 50 has EL34's. Granted, I loved the tone of my Tiny Terror which had EL84's, but my general understanding is they're saggier than EL34's, and my TT could've done with a bit of tightening that EL34's might've helped (of course, then it wouldn't be too Tiny anymore ;)) I'd recommend trying 'em both if you can! (and also, my TT benefited MASSIVELY from a TS)

Holy shit I NEVER knew a Marshall could sound that heavy! Had some pretty nice tones out of my DSL (CRUNCH with ts peeps, the lead channels suck!)

Another amp for the wish list then...

I´m sure the recti 4x12 also has a large portion of this guitarsound. I think Marshall made some progress in the last time..I did not like all Marshall sounds in the past. Valvestate 40 :Puke: Matter of taste. But I heared this amp is rarely and interesting for collectors. Anyway JVM for president :)

Thanks, Marcus! I hope, I can show you some new stuff soon with JVM right, Krank Revolution jr. left and with a new singer in the middle ;)

I have a Marshall JVM. It is a fantastic amp. From pristine clean, hard rock 70's style crunch, tight classic metal, liquid butter sustaining solo tone, crushing gain for extreme metal, to over saturated tone for Doom metal. Its all there.

You need to run an ISP Decimator in the loop (or something akin) to kill the pre amp gain noise for the OD channels though. That, along with a NS-2 in front of the amp, and you are ready to go. Run it with either a Vintage 30 loaded cab, or a 1960 cab with the G12T-75's and you are good to go.
