Maryand Deathfest 10

I heard from a reliable source that one of the guys got busted with a sack of weed at JFK a few years back. We all thought it was ironinc that he didn't think he could find weed in the States, and had to bring his own stash... He He.

I'm not entirely sure if that would keep them from coming in again though. Possession charges are looked at pretty leniently these days.

Outside of Saint Vitus, I have no interest in any of this. This past year I really did want to go, but it just wasn't possible. Anvil is indeed strange and after the latest debacle that was Morbid Angel's latest, I wonder how many people this is going to pull in.

Morbid Angel has too much history for that album to prevent people from seeing them live. I've seen recent set lists and even though they throw in a stinker or two, overall they stick to what people will want to hear anyway.

Nothing off G though, and only one from F :(

8 more bands have been confirmed for MDF 2012:

GODFLESH (UK) - Exclusive North American appearance!
WINTER
TSJUDER (Norway)
HORNA (Finland)
SARGEIST (Finland)
DISMA
LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER (Spain)
NASHGUL (Spain)

New announcement is even better than previous, in my opinion. With the three punch of Horna, Sargeist, and Tsjuder, they've got the elite black metal they need to get that part of the crowd there. Saint Vitus, Electric fucking Wizard, Confessor, and Winter take care of the doom crowd. Believe me, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Ghoul, Macabre, and Demigod take care of the death metal crowd, and there's a ton of good grind already (Bloody Phoenix, Haemorrhage, plus the two Spanish bands that just got announced.) And Anvil, Negura Bunget, and Today is the Day take care of the "oddball" crowd. And with all extreme genres covered, they've got a great mix of old and new school. Plus, there are likely a ton more bands left to be announced. Every year I can't believe how good MDF gets, and every year they improve. I wholeheartedly expect that if he's available, they could get King Diamond or Mercyful Fate (or both) to play. I know they're interested.

ProgPower is a must each year for me, but this fest is essential now in its own way too. Lest I ever see a band like Tsjuder to appear at Center Stage, these fests are mutually exclusive and amazing in their own right.

11 more bands have been confirmed for MDF 2012:

AUTOPSY
NAPALM DEATH (UK)
EYEHATEGOD
NOOTHGRUSH
RWAKE
DEVIATED INSTINCT (UK)
COUGH
COKE BUST
INFERNAL STRONGHOLD
BACKSLIDER
CASTEVET

FUCKING STOKEDDDD!

Yeah, Autopsy was really sweet. Hoping I can make it. To be honest I was more thrilled with the last two announcements than this one, but that's only because I've already seen half the bands on this announcement. It's really cool that Noothgrush is back doing shows.

I think that without making it the official theme of MDF, some of it will be a "best of". Thus, Autopsy, Suffocation, Eyehategod, and others.

Personally, I'd love it if they got Bolt Thrower back. Who knows.

Bolt Thrower would make this fest 1000% mandatory. Did you see that the RoD dudes tried to get them for the fest this year and the only reason they declined was due to their schedule? That'd be nuts. Bolt Thrower in a 1000-capacity club.

Well, you already know what that's like...

Hey guys, so it looks like I'll be going to this next year. I've never been before, have had friends that have gone though. Any pointers/tips? Warnings? lol. I've been to Baltimore before so I know it's kind of a dump (well except for the harbor area).

Yep you're right, that city sucks. There's a supermarket called SuperFresh pretty close to the Sonar that will be your savior. Just stock up on food there and you'll be good to go. The place I stayed at last year was a good walk from the venue (~1 mile even though Google Maps said 0.5) and it wasn't through the safest of places, so just don't be stupid I guess. Don't drink too much alcohol at the show either. It's outdoors at the beginning of summer. You will get too hot and it will not be fun. There's some Irish pub type restaurant that had some of the best seafood I've ever eaten in my life. Look for it and grab a bite there.

I agree that Baltimore is a toilet. I had read somewhere else that the SuperFresh closed. I do not know of any other similar stores nearby. Never really paid attention for them when walking around. My biggest word of advice is comfortable shoes. There are not many places to sit & it can be a long day on your feet.
