Maryland Deathfest, 2010 edition. You need to check this out.

Amusing that every time this festival is brought up here, at least a few people make a comment about 'I can't read their names!'

LOL, count me in! Last week I put in a new pair of contact lenses and had the same effect on my computer - stuff I just couldn't read! I went back to the eye doc and I was informed "well you were borderline for astigmatism when we wrote the script". So of course, a new pair are on their way.

For some reason though, I can't blame the MDF roster on astigmatism (rotfl)!

Ok, let's pretend that it's an eye chart from the line below EyeHateGod:

"Can't read that, can't read that, can't read that, can't read that. Next line in Sinister, can't read that, The Chasm? I think it's The Chasm, can't read that - think it's Hemmorage is that how it's spelled?" Can't read that..."

"Think I'm a good candidate for Lasik doc?"

Dialed down.....and speaking of dialing...I dont even own a cellphone...I like to stay off the grid.

Dont want to open a can of CPF on me....look how dull that forum is now. That is why I post here....better class of posters.

I did get the lame joke....just no point in bringing up an old debate.

I would really like to make it next year - I had ticket & transportation all taken care of for last year, but then things got in the way of me getting there. I'd REALLY like to see Sodom, Autopsy, Possessed, Gorguts, Entombed, Pentagram, etc etc but ProgPower is my focus next year, so this is only if I can manage to afford both.

Some of the lower bands that aren't as "classic" as the headliners are well worth checking out.

Coffins = awesome doom/death band from Japan

Portal = really cool, sick/twisted/avant-garde black/death

Gorod = one of the best tech-death bands around, miles better than the shit from America

Impaled = if you don't know this band, do. They took Heartwork-era Carcass and made like 4 great albums just from that sound alone

The Chasm = hands down, one of the best death metal bands around; originally from Mexico, now living in Chicago I believe. Sounds similar to Immolation/Morbid Angel, only better.

Melechesh = one of the biggest reasons I love this lineup. Amazing black/death metal from the middle east. Originally from Israel, I believe, but relocated to Europe b/c of backlash from the anti-religious lyrics.

What scares me is that it looks as though they topped last year's incredible lineup. MDF is slowly becoming the best festival in the US right now... =O

yeah....this is a real solid line up. Even though I am not a huge fan of lots of these bands....just on drawing power....this is going to be bigger than last year. Would really like to see Naglfar again and see Pestilence.

You cannot compare it to ProgPower because the styles of metal and their core fans are quite different. But, I believe that as MDF has evolved and grown, it has become quite the contender for top 5 fests in America, both in terms of band quality and how well it is run.

I would love to see SODOM tour, though it seems they favor one offs. Probably make more $$$ that way.

Yeah, not a ton of bands I would say I am a fan of, but if I were more local to the area, I would be more than happy to check out this lineup. Quality stuff!

What would you include as the other 3?

I wasn't really comparing Maryland Deathfest to Progpower, but rather to all festivals! Both are awesome, but my PERSONAL preference leans towards variety. That's where my money goes. MDF isn't a death metal fest contrary to the name, it's got death, black, grind, crust, powerviolence, d-beat, doom, etc etc. It's got cool hipster metal bands like Tombs and Wolves In the Throne Room, and balls-out "you don't like metal if you don't like this band" types of bands like Deceased and Destroyer 666. We've never in the US had a fest with that much variety in a loooong time. Props!
