This is just so bad for Europe. Trump means the US will stop acting in the middle east, which will let the gangrene there grow unrestricted and in turn lead to more terror attacks in Europe, and in the end in the US too.

This is also a disaster for all my friends in the academic. You can expect the scientific funding to hit an all time low.

The US are a great democracy, and you guys vote for whoever you want to, and nobody has the right to say anything about that. But I fear that the people who voted for Trump di so for the wrong reasons and will get quite the opposite of what they were looking for...

All those things are what we're afraid of, too. However....

This is exactly why people voted for Trump. If the EU is so afraid of terror attacks and what goes on in the Middle East, then they should use their own forces and take charge. However, for the past 50 years they've been content to sit back and point out everything the US is doing wrong, and when the US asks them to take a bigger role, they always, ALWAYS refuse and go back to doing the bare minimum. France has been the only country in this entire affair to really step it up. France is one of four countries who actually funds their military in accordance with NATO standards, puts their money where their mouth is and steps up to the plate.

I really want to know what happened behind the scenes in the Hillary camp when they realized they were gonna lose.

i'll post the text if permission is granted to me. not that it' super top secret, but out of permission rather. it's absolutely hillaryarious :tickled:

It's not that they're reporting this in a different light or even putting the candidates in a bad light, they're calling the American people stupid for electing their next president democratically. The American people chose, and whether we like it or not, that's democracy. You can't always get what you want, and sometimes it really, really sucks. You can insult our leaders all you want, but when you start throwing spears at the American people and insulting them on a national scale by your national media and not by some random guy on the street giving his personal opinion, you're insulting an entire people. I'm sorry we aren't like the royal family who you pay to absorb all your money so they can look down upon you without even doing anything for your country aside from being a goddamn tourist attraction.

I don't really see the point of "patriotism" if that means including all of the bigots, racists, ultraconservatives/evangelicals in your argument too; which was a large portion of those who voted for Trump. Calling Americans "stupid" might be a blanketed overgeneralization, but we do live in the cult of personality age.

Also, why do you keep using "we" in your statements, when I thought you've been living abroad for years now? I'd think this, especially regarding NATO would affect you negatively.

It's not that people from around the world called Americans stupid, it's their media who are saying things like this, and not opinion pieces, either. Not even Fox News does that. As a media outlet, your job is to report the news, not infer your anti-American bias into your pieces. If you want to do that, then make it an opinion piece. They're not even trying to hide it anymore. Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rachel Maddow, etc. are all opinion-based talking heads, they're not reporting the news. The Guardian, on the other hand, is, and when they use phrases to describe the election like "this horror show", it's disgraceful and it's not fair journalism.

I'm an American citizen, my son has dual citizenship, and my entire family is American and living in the US. Just because I live abroad doesn't mean I'm not affected by American politics, nor does it mean I'm somehow unable to come back. I'm a resident alien of Italy, so that means I pay Italian taxes and my residency is here. I'm still a citizen, however. I still have an American passport. Also, raising a family is much better here; the education system is better, the health care system is better, and it's a much, much safer environment.

I live here because, quite honestly, my quality of life as an American combat veteran with 9 years military service is better in a foreign country where I'm a resident alien than in my own country. This is why I'm very outspoken against all the "support the troops" nonsense in the US, because it's all fake and no one gives a shit. If they did give a shit, all veterans would have free health care and education for life, we wouldn't be killing ourselves 20 a day because the VA has failed us, and people would actually thank us for our service by lobbying Congress for these changes. But the reality of it is that no one cares enough to do anything, and so that whole, "thank you for your service" line makes me want to punch people. Their response is, "Well would you rather they hate you?" YES! I WOULD! At least then it would be honest and not some phony gesture they're guilt-tripped into by American society today. But that's a whole different conversation.

As for your other question, the US getting out of NATO would initially affect the EU negatively, but it's more of a tough love sort of thing and they would finally get off their asses and take their NATO commitments seriously. Kinda like the parents of a 25-year-old who kick him out of the house.

Well, it's not only a question of money. Sure, most of Europe do not meet the nato criterion on financing their military (France included, I believe). But you have to acknowledge that the EU can do almost nothing in the middle east and northern africa because it's the ancient colonial power, and whatever a European country does, even if it is just giving money (crazy right), is seen as an oppressive threat by the locals. So if their is no sort of international coalition for operations in the middle east, no european country can do no shit.

A bit late, but happy veterans day. Didn't know about the veterans situation in the US. In France, in you serve 17 year, you get a retirement pension for the rest of your life. If you did less, you can claim a part of it as you hit 52.

Well, this is the same situation that the US goes through every time something happens in the world. The US gets involved and then gets criticized for getting involved, angers either its allies or its adversaries, and gets shit on by the locals anyway. If the US doesn't get involved, it then gets criticized for not getting involved, as we see right now, with NATO countries practically pissing themselves and asking, "But but but but but we need America!! Who's going to lead us? Who's going to protect us???" It then gets shit on by its allies and adversaries yet again, as well as angers the locals, yet again. Catch-22. The point is the US doesn't have to always be the one to do it.

The position of many in Washington is that the EU has had 60 years to get its shit together and defend itself; the US wasn't even supposed to stay in NATO to begin with, just until the rest of Europe was able to competently defend itself. Americans are tired of paying for 70% of NATO when the NATO countries themselves don't pay their fair share, and they're tired of constantly being berated for everything they do by their so-called allies who wouldn't even get involved in the rest of the world without American leadership.

Americans don't want to stop being friends or allies, but they want to show some tough love and pop the titty out of the EU's mouth. Then you have these pieces of shit like fucking Juncker, where every time he opens his mouth something condescending comes out, and now he's just recently insulted Trump, saying that "Europe needs to teach Trump what Europe is", which is a thinly-veiled insult and more along the lines of "we need to teach this retard how to put his pants on". That's not going to get the EU or NATO very far with this president, because he's not a politician and he's definitely not above hanging the EU out to dry. He's a businessman and he's going to look at the bottom line for the US, and even though that's a bit short-sighted and under-appreciative of the strategic partnership the US has with the EU and NATO, the fact remains that EU leaders have forgotten that there is always a Plan B for the US, and many, many people are leaning towards isolationism. The EU/US partnership is absolutely beneficial for all involved, but the EU cannot afford to continue pissing in America's face, refusing to invest in their military according to the NATO charter, and continue to take a back seat instead of being decisive when it comes to ISIS and the Middle East. The US has proven that it can go it alone, but the EU cannot if it continues on this path.

The problem is that the EU should be able to.

People just don't give a fuck anymore. Canada and Europe have been pissing in our faces since the Clinton administration, and no matter what the US does it's never good enough for them. And as always the US responds with, "Now, now, let's not be hasty. That wasn't very nice. Could I kiss your ass some more?" As per usual, Europe's now crying, "Europe needs American leadership", and as soon as they get it, they'll go right back to bitching and complaining and not lifting a finger but instead pointing it at the US. The American people caught on to this and are frankly sick of funding 70% of NATO, being called upon to act in hotspots around the world only to have it thrown back in their face by politicians, the media, and people around the world. The American people had enough, and although this has been called a protest vote, I see it as more of a middle finger/revenge vote.

Hillary was in a psychotic, drunken rage election night; needed hardcore meds to speak Wednesday.****** ***** tells me Hillary became physically violent towards Robby Mook and John Podesta around midnight; had to be briefly restrained. Hillary on election night was straight-up Hitler-in-the-bunker shit. It even included psychotic screaming about the Russians. ***** ********* helped restrain Hillary when she violently attacked Mook and Podesta at midnight. Gave sedatives, then amphetamines next morning. A reporter says Hillary needed so many amphetamines Wed morning she had unexpected nosebleeds all day. Fear was she'd bleed at concession.

I was asked not to pass on what was sent to me directly as of yet, so this is kind of around the corner. No matters because the beans are going to be spilled in a more direct manner.

In a few weeks when this dulls off it'll be okay.....

It was plainly obvious that she is not well physically or mentally... this is not normal

I'm pretty unnerved about him appointing John Bolton as Secretary of State. That guy is a complete loon and a total embarrassment. Hawkish doesn't even begin to describe him.
