Hello all,

I was asked to help plan a tour for a local band and I need as much information as I can about any rock/metal clubs east of the Mississippi River. I am particularly interested in East Coast state clubs (Florida, the Carolinas, Virginia, etc.).

Please give me the name of the club, a band or two that you've seen there and a website link. Any other information that you would be privy to (approximate capacity, is the sound good, is the parking free, etc.) would also be very helpful.

THANKS! :)

Nathan

I highly recommend the Starland Ballroom in Sayerville, New Jerey. Good location gets traffic not only from Jersey, but NYC and Pennsy. Hosts all music genres but is starting to make a name for itself in the metal world. Bands that I've seen there:
Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Joe Satriani, Children of Bodom, Seven Witches, Iced Earth, Beyond the Embrace and Kings X to name a few. Loudness was there last night but Dave got sick so we didn't go.
Anyway, here's some links:

Webster Theater in Hartford,CT.

Terrible sound
1100 capacity, Opeth is the only band I've seen in 10+ metal shows there that have packed a crowd ( 500 ish was the previous high ).
Its in the middle of a non-white neighborhood, the theater actually used to be a porno cinema.
The bathrooms work whenever they feel like it, the bouncers are all 300 lb+ and its NOT muscle.
I've heard gunshots exactly 3 times in my times going there, and they always book 8-10 of the worst local support acts you've ever heard, to sell tickets to get the majority of these small crowds to see the headliner.

I would much prefer to drive up to The Palladium in Worcester, Mass, then ever set foot near the Webster again. Drove 4 1/2 hours up in obscene traffic to see Sonata Arctica only to call the tour manage an hour before the show and find out Tony was too sick to sing and the gig was cancelled. Stayed in a rat trap of a hotel and was accosted by wackos of varying ethnicity and intoxication ever time I set foot out of the door. Stopped by the club which was full of a hoard of 12-17 year olds dressed for Halloween, being baby-sat by a squad of dopey, 300 pound neanderthals who were promisng them all the band was stopping by for drinks and a chat later. Yea right. The kids were all either trying to get laid or comatose while totally ignoring some of the worst neighborhood metal bands I 've ever heard. I swear I will never go back. (Oh wait, I said that about L'amour in Brooklyn a month before I saw Nighwish there. It nearly wasn't worth it. Glad they closed.)
I've only seen Lullacry, Nightwish, Into Eternity, Rhapsody and Manowar there, since many of the same bands go to NYC, but I wish it were closer since it's one of my preferred venues. Large, mulit level club. Great stage. Awesome staff. Go there.

Ziggy's, Winston-Salem, NC http://www.ziggyrock.com/index.shtml - They have both inside and outdoor stages. Parking is on street and a few small lots, but adequate. Saw Nevermore/Opeth and BLS. Sound was good.

House of Blues, Myrtle Beach, SC http://www.hob.com/venues/clubvenues/myrtlebeach/ - Since it is a HOB, it is top notch. Easy to get to and plentiful parking on site. Saw Steve Vai. Sound was excellent.

The Norva, Norfolk, VA http://www.thenorva.com/index.php - Neat venue. Parking was easy as there is a huge mall right across the street. Saw Iced Earth. Sound was fine.

Jester's Pub, Fayetteville, NC http://www.jesterspub.com/ - Pretty much a bar with a stage, but they get some nationals. Sound wasn't bad at all. Saw Overkill.

Lincoln Theatre, Raleigh, NC http://www.lincolntheatre.com/index.html Sorry, haven't been there.

I haven't lived in the Raleigh, NC area for very long, but here's one:

Raleigh, NC: The Lincoln Theater - http://www.lincolntheatre.com/

I've seen Gary Hoey and Yngwie Malmsteen there. I used to live in Virginia, and I'd compare it vaguely to Jaxx in Springfield, VA as far as type of venue, size, etc.

If anyone knows of any other Raleigh-Durham metal venues, I'd love to hear 'em, too! :headbang:

Ill second the Palladium venue that AMBR mentioned. Its my local venue that I see probably 90% of my shows at. In the past couple of years, Ive seen everyone from Nightwish, to Edguy, to Into Eternity, to Manowar, to Killswitch Engage, to Children of Bodom, to Opeth, and Amorphis too. It is also where they hold the New England Metal and Hardcore festival. Venue isnt in the best shape, but its a good place to see a show.

I cannot believe I got on after only two hours and had basically the entire East Coast mapped out for me!

Thank you to everyone for helping me out with this!

Still am looking for something in Pennsylvania if anyone can help me out there...

Bleh, I wouldn't count that. Other than Yngiwe, what else?

In Flames, Trivium, Zao, Devil Driver show.

Def Leppard in July with Journey!! =)

Queensryche in august

There's the Trocadero in Philly. Good club, so-so neighborhood. Safe enough but it's in Chinatown and there's not a lot of places to go before or after the show (I also got the worst food poisoning in my life at a "sports bar" near there.) I've seen Edguy, Hammerfall, Into Eternity there. There's another one that Dave went to and liked a lot, but I can't remember it. I'll ask him and get back to you.
