Metal, punk, and industrial are pretty similar in some ways. They're all forms of aggressive music, they have their own kind of fans, and they all have a wide variety of subgenres.

Metal has genres like thrash metal, death metal, black metal, doom metal, progressive metal, power metal, gothic metal, folk metal, etc. Punk has genres like anarcho punk, horror punk, garage punk, hardcore punk, Oi!, street punk, crust punk, psychobilly, deathrock, etc. Industrial has genres like electronic body music, electro-industrial, aggrotech, industrial rock, power electronics, rhythmic noise, futurepop, martial industrial, etc.

Do you think metal, punk, and industrial are very similar in some ways?

The only ones of those that really have anything to do with industrial in reality are power electronics and martial industrial.

most metal wouldn't exist in its current form if not for punk.

industrial is not an inherently aggressive genre and it only started getting connections to metal when Godflesh got signed to Earache.

Sounds good. What are we gonna play?

And yes, we'll go streaking through the quad into the gymnasium, where we'll then go into the girls locker room.

Sounds good.

We should also play some fucking Exodus :kickass:

Check out Burn, Hollywood, Burn or Good Riddance. They're fucking great songs to mosh to.

Can we please get back on topic now?

Well sure, not all industrial is aggressive, but its fanbase (rivetheads) have their own distinct look, which look quite similar to metalheads and punks. They got their tattoos, piercings, and boots and stuff.

Plus, you got other bands like KMFDM, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails (well, somewhat), Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, White Zombie/Rob Zombie, Fear Factory, and many others.

While they all might be related, metal is without a doubt the heaviest of the three.

Punk without a doubt influenced metal, which in turn influenced industrial.
