Metalbabe

Hey Edu, does Sicilian count? If so, I was the short lady that said hello to you in the lobby of the Granada hotel.

That's yet another thing I like about ProgPower--it's my opportunity to see there really *are* other women into some of the same music! :) I don't think there are many of us in Atlanta, either, but I do know of one chick in Detroit (not sure how far that is from GR) that joined us for ProgPower.

Detroit is about 3 hours east of Grand Rapids... Metalbabes are scarce around here too :-\ Shoot, I think we're rare no matter where we're talking about. My problem at metalshows is trying to distinguish the girls that are there for the music and love the bands vesus the girls that are there to "love the bands" or are there dressed like sluts because they know they can get the attention since there is a lack of other femmes
Something I always wondered.. why does it seem that women into metal are supposed to be/generally seem to be overtly slutty? I don't get it... that's not METAL! Am I the only one that notices the majority of girls at a metal show seem to be there to attract attention rather than enjoy the music? It makes it seem as though all women into metal should be as such, which ruins it for the rest of us when men who hit on me think I'm easy :bah: Am I the only one irritated by this?

~Sh0k~

Nope, you're not the only one, I just laugh at them tho..concert bimbos can be so entertaining, cuz they look like such idiots to those of us there for the music..hehe. Morons. ;)

I also hate it when then majority of the girls I see at a concert appear to be dragged their by their boyfriends.

I went to the Hammerfall/Dio show (King's X was there too, but i'm not a fan) on the 25th, and the large girl standing next to me in the front was obviously dragged by her boyfriend (he was on the other side of her). She looked completely bored and did not smile once during the whole show. If you don't enjoy a type of music, don't go to a concert stand upfront and look bored; especially a metal concert. I don't know why she couldn't be in the back, or have stayed home and watched TV or something. I was especially pissed because she had a much better spot then I did (we were off to the side), and you could have fit both me and my boyfriend in the space she was taking up.

Last year there appeared to be a lot of this "girlfriend dragging" at ProgPower. This year I hardly saw any girls that appeared to be "dragged." This may be because the tickets were more expensive and you had to get tickets for both day. Or it could be because the festival sold out so fast that no guys had time to talk their girlfriends into tagging along. Either way, I was glad to see a lot more real female metal fans at the concert this year.

I am not sure what you consider slutty, my friend and i wore some leather like pants... but guys that are into the music wear that kind of clothing too...so i would hope you are not talking about that. I am definitely there for the music and could care less about meeting bands (well, i have my idols like anyone else) much less trying to hook up with any of them. I did not see many women dressed real bad or anything so that is why i asked. I saw like one mini skirt and lots of chicks with leather or leather like pants...but that is it.

I agree on the chicks that come with there boyfriends...but maybe they want to try to see what his world is about but they should probably stand back if they are not enjoying it at all..

I went to Nevermore once where there were about 50 people and I was the one girl who was there for the show and i think the other girls (all 7 or them) were all there with their boyfriends...
I even had a guy hit me at a show once because i accidently bumped into his girlfriend when the crowd got a little rowdy...
that really sucked, he grabbed me by the head and slammed me into the ground and my only crime was headbanging and being up front... his girlfriend should not have been up front if she can not handle a little push from time to time...

Anyway, that is my few cents i suppose...
great to see people in general into the music i am into...
women and men... but i do wish i knew more women into it.

what the heck is the big deal if the girls are there for the music or the band..who cares?. I love to see HOT GIRLS at these shows instead of MEN all the time! gives you something sweet to look at instead of sweaty balls lol..
Hey it works both ways, like Gene Simmons says, he started KISS to get laid! Why take the fun out. Come on, leave us geeks alone lol.

I've seen tons of metal girls that actually DO KNOW THE MUSIC and LOVE the music not only for the band. Don't let the look fool you! they don't need to be dressed in oversized t-shirts and black baggy jeans to know metal!

THANK YOU!!! That is sooooo true .... but I also see the other side of it sometimes too. I definitely dress up for shows - I'll wear my leather pants or sometimes even a skirt, but that's my time to go out and enjoy myself - so of course I'm going to try to look my best. :) There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good :) I dooooooooo know the music - It's my life - I don't know what I would do without it or PROG POWER for that matter!! Yahoo ...

I must agree with some of the others that posted this earlier. It did seem that more (if not all) girls were actually into the music this year, compared to last year. It's wonderful to know that the good looking girl dressed in leather next to me is as much, if not more, of a metal head than I am. :) I was fortunate enough to meet a really cool metal chick at the Blind Guardian / Symphony X shows in Washington DC a few weeks back. She knew most, if not all, of their songs. How cool is that?

*shrugs* I'm not saying anyone in particular at ProgPower.. if I did say that directly, I apologize. I either completely didn't mean it to sound that way, or I was out of my mind because every single female I talked to at PP3 was incredibly sweet.. then again, I thinkI only talked to about 3 girls there total. One being the bartender  All I'm saying is I wish that there was more of a balance between the girls at the show for the music and the girls who are there for their boyfriends or the men... Then again, I don't usually get along well with women.
Sorry if I said something to upset anyone :)

~Sh0k~

I was not upset at all...just wanted to make it clear that i sometimes dress up and sometimes i don't but i am still the
same little girl that started listening to Helloween in 87/88
and never stopped loving the music (not to mention listening
to my dad's alice cooper and black sabbath from age 4)
I dressed up one night and the others wore long sleeved
texas chainsaw massacre shirt...(that is sexy huh?) lol.

i loved seeing the few girls that are there, just wish i was not too shy to talk to people..

i do know what you mean by the girls that are there only to hook up with the guys in the band, i have seen a little of that at other fests...but i guess that is all part of it... and hell, the guys in the bands would be bored without that i would think..lol

hope that i get to meet some of the females next year... this year i was fortunate enough to meet one and she lives here and we are getting together for metal night from time to time now...anyone in atl are welcome to join the few of us.. ;)

I don't think you upset anyone. :) I, for one, am happy that y'all were there (for the obvious reasons). :D Next time you find yourself in Atlanta, you'll have to let us know!

Well hell, so do I.. everytime.. There's a difference betweeen dressing up casual sexy and then dressing to .. well.. I'm sure you know the difference I'm refering to...

AMEN! I wonder how I even manage to make new friends sometimes  The entire festival I hardly looked anyone in the eye and just kept to the friends that I came with. I sure wish I was able to just walk up to the Evergrey guys who seemed so cool, casual, and approachable, but I just couldn't do it. I wish I had talked to some of the random people around me Eh... After reading all the comments people made about everyone being so nice, I sure wished I hadn't been so standoffish while I was there  I'm the kind of person that I don't strike up a conversation until someone else does.. if they don't, then I know they didn't want to talk in the first place. This does not get me anywhere fast! haha!
Next year, I DEFINATELY plan to make a few new friends! :)

You know, that makes me happy too.. I've actually encounted some guys who think that women shouldn't be into metal but should still be there at the shows to support the interests of their boyfriends :puke: Yeah, I'm not kidding! Who would have thought that it would be an issue to some guys that there are girls who honestly and wholeheartedly love the same music?! I'm glad THOSE guys are in the minority!

I'll be traveling to Atlanta plenty, but I might not have spare time.. If I do, I'll certainly post it! :]

~Sh0k~

P.s.- Thanks! I'm actually glad I could use it! I was afraid it would be too big for the requirements.. I have a million avatars but this one is my favorite because, well, cuz it's ME and not some cartoon character or band member! hahaha!
