I got the train from Hamburg into Wacken. Wacken is quite large and from there we got a Taxi to a tiny little town that consisted of houses and about 5 shops where the venue was :\

OK, so there is at least some sort of option.
Coming from America, Europe is going to be uberexpensive for me anyways, as our dollar is now extremely weak against the Euro. So I might as well go all out and hire cabs if I actually do this
I'm hopefully going to be driving next year, if this is the case then I'm going to be offering free rides for a lot of friends or people I know from the net. I know how painful it can be with public transport so I can't help but want to help others. Lets hope I'll be driving then, arg!

Sorry, but you got it wrong! Wacken is a small town of 1900 inhabitants and it has no train station. The next bigger towns are Itzehoe and Kiel, believe me.

hi there, where did you get details of the metalcamp 08? i'm trying to get exact dates for next year. 07 was fantastic! can't wait to go back
yes, you can stay in hotel for both. wacken - closest town is called itzehoe. you can take a taxi for 30 each way or shuttle bus to wacken for 3. you might find available rooms in hotels julianka, stephen's or jever krog still. others are fully booked since beginning of august.
metalcamp - all nearby villages have b&b. local taxi firm sells wrist bands for 30. this allows you unlimited 24 hr a day for 7 days transfers from the festival site to hotel and back. and you will need it as it's hot during the day and you'll be on a beach so need to go back to change for the night as it gets chili. especially by the river - metal beach bar open 24 hrs. i stayed in blue house (do search for tolmin hotels) and it was lovely. all hotels are small cottages really and within 5-10 mins drive from the site. there are loads of them and metaltaxi hehe serve them all so you won't be stuck. jsut make sure you have local sim card or it's rather expensive to call them all the time. same taxi firm will take you to ljubliana airport for only 20 per person. worth it as public transport takes forever!

Just want to say, Vampyrian has been awesome at helping me with trying to get to MetalCamp <3
I'm going to run into the City now and ask a guy who works at a comic book store how he's doing it all, maybe I can tag along with him for the journey and stuff. :3

I'll post more details about specific travel routes later on tho, when the Metal Camp people provide more info.no problem. glad to help. transfer is easy to the camp but takes a long time. first you need to take a bus from just outside the airport, then train and then another bus i think. can't get lost - you'll see all metallers going that way. i personally prefer save on the journey to get to the metal beach bar as soon as possible so few of us will just share a taxi from ljubliana for 20 each instead. another hotel in tolmin within walking distance to the festival is hotel krn. the only hotel in tolmin so have to be quick to book. they will be accepting bookings from 2008. once again it takes about 5 hours to get from ljubliana airport to metalcamp and it's very hot there in the summer. i strongly recomment a taxi.

Great, glad you enjoy Metal Camp Anyway another bit of info: Metal Camp 2008 will take place between the 4th and 6th of July. Which means that it will start on Friday (4th), with Sunday (6th) being the last day.
