Michael Jackson R.I.P.

I have been reading posts from this site since August 2007, and I can not remember once, reading anything on here in regards to Jackson being influencial.

I'm not getting into any arguments here... but regarding the above point:

MJ was the first musical artist I ever really loved and the one and only artist I liked before rock/metal. I also still listen to Thriller and Bad quite often and would certainly class Jackson as being 'influential' in my life.

But I've never felt the need to mention it on here. But then again, I've never mentioned my parents on here and they're more influential on me than anything else. I'm sure there are loads of things that people find influential but haven't felt the need to post on here. But just because it isn't mentioned on here doesn't negate it's importance.

On a Jackson related note, my old band once covered 'thriller' at a Halloween gig. I arranged all the synth parts for 3 guitars (we were a 3-guitar band a la maiden) and it was fucking classic.

I also once got over writers block by listening to MJ and meshuggah albums back to back for a whole day.

is michael possibly the biggest musician of modern times? is he bigger than the beatles, elvis, kiss, the rolling stones? i think so... not sure though. what do you all think?

btw... i'm not saying who makes better music, whether you like pop or not, etc. question is, is there anyone's music who has reached more, and been enjoyed by more people than his?

My Co-worker said whats the big deal that Michael Jackson is dead?

I told her the big deal is that you and most people in this world know more personal facts about Michael Jackson, than Jesus, Hitler and any President there ever was put together.

Thats enough said.

So the yank version of tool is ..................................?

Well, since a great deal of our slang is at least slightly connected to the rest of the language, we reserve 'tool' for dim-witted, unoriginal wankers. Something more appropriate for someone with a decent understanding of the English language and proficiency in several technical areas would be 'egghead' or 'geek' - assuming, of course, that it is already agreed that such traits are bad. The below image gives a fairly good example of how the word is used by people who aren't just throwing insults out without considering context or suitability.

Worse, they are GUIDO.

and about the NIN thing. i could see that. there were a lot of similar elements in a few MJ songs and some of the earlier funky industrial stuff of NIN... kind of the intro to "stranger in moscow" with MJs samples "beat box" noises sequenced in midi i guess. very "industrial thing" to do...

"bad" the whole album had some rockier and harder industrialish stuff going on.

fwiw i remember reading an interview in rolling stone a WAAAAYS back in the late 90s with trent reznor where he stated MJ was one of his fav artists ever and one of his biggest influences.
