Okay, I admit it... I read too many books as a child, and know how to use several words greater than five letters in length. Unfortunately, I don't own a thesaurus, as they are all woefully lacking in synonyms for 'synonym', but I make up for that by throwing in math jokes when syntactical prestidigitation is inadequate. Hopefully, though, we can convince you that (despite your geographical handicap) you can still grow up to understand what grownups say.

Jeff

Hahahahaha!:) Geographical handicap, mate, this is the best place on earth!
The only thing that sucks here is the price of MESA gear, apart from that, I am willing to put my left testicle on that there would be a bigger percentage of Australians that know how to use several words greater than five letters, than the percentage of Americans that know how to use several words greater than five letters!

I've heard nice things about Australia, actually... I was making fun of your own reference to Aussie vocabulary and the perception of 'toolishness' (as if 'tool' could more reasonably refer to 'someone who doesn't talk like a character out of Idiocracy' than 'someone dense, unoriginal, and easily swayed by utter nonsense'), but I'm sure you picked that up already.

Jeff

OK MJ was good at what he did.

However...

This doesn't make him a music genius.

He sold that 1 billion records just because he had a huge industry behind him.

MTV and all that shit puts a powerful spell on many people.

Yes some of his fans would like his music even if he were totally unknown.

But most of them are under the spell and treat him like some god.

And that has nothing to do with his music which isn't THAT good.

Yes i am a purist and i don't give a shit about him revolutionalizing the "music VIDEO" and his strange/disgusting stage "dancing" and holding the balls to make that falsetto scream "uh oh".

All i know is that there are 1000s of more talented musicians in the world who will ever sell only 1/100000 the number of records that MJ sold.

There was a MJ themed radio show yesterday here in which the DJ was all about MJs pure musician genius and i listened to some songs and for the life of me and my family i couldn't find a bit of genius in any of them...

Maybe that's because i am not under that spell...
And no i am not only a metalhead.
I listen to classical (Bach, Wagner), movie soundtracks (Morricone, Silvestri, Poledouris), electronic music (Jarre), classic rock (Hendrix, Pink Floyd), so i can judge what is good, bad, or mediocre.

(and don't get me wrong - i think that some of his songs are actually good... just not great)

Honestly, after reading one of the Michael Jackson threads on Gearslutz where people who worked with him commented and shared stories, I highly doubt that all of Michaels success can be attributed to MTV. Sure it helped his success, but from what it sounds like, Michael was incredibly dedicated to his craft and his music meant everything to him. The fact that he would come in the studio with complete horn arrangements in his head is amazing. He did the same thing with string arrangements. I also watched a video of him in a session recording We Are The World...it's like a 10 minute clip and the guy did a bunch of different takes of parts throughout the tune and I think maybe ONCE did he hit a bad note. Good luck finding talent like that in today's world. Whether you like it or not, Michael Jackson was an incredibly talented singer and performer. The guy didn't sell 750 million records for no reason.

And frankly, just because you listen to a wide variety of music doesn't mean that you know what is good, mediocre or bad to anyone but yourself.

1 I agree. He was talented, but while browsing the wikipedia page about the best selling musicians of all time i would put him in the 100 to 199 millions records group... he just fits more there than in the 500 to 999 group.

2 Listening to various GOOD music gives me a better ability to judge music than if i was limited to listening only to metal.

I once did this online vocabulary test, against this German dude, and the German dude beat me slightly and English wasn't even his first language:lol:

I gotta say, after watching 7 hours worth of Jackson videos on VH1, I learned one important thing.
