hi there again!

I'm searching some information about the mics used to record vocals in some particular albums..... If anyone can help me with this.... i will be very thanked.

i'm looking for the mics used in:

Nickelback - All the right Reasons
Megadeth - United Abominations
Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing
Evergrey - The Inner Circle
Evanescence - The open Door
Kelly Clarkson - Brake Away

That's it..... any help is useful...

Thanks again!

I'm very sure when i say that almost all those albums were recorded with condenser mics...... and that's what i'm looking for, the model of the mics used to record those particular albums..... I already have a Shure SM57 for micing my guitar cabinets and a Beta 58A for live vocal uses... but i'm looking for mics for my studio, 'cause I'm upgrading my mics and pre amps.

Thanks anyway....

if you want a realistic chance at figuring out what was used on those records, head over to gearslutz.com and do a search on each of them...you'll probably find info on at least a couple

i think i remember seeing there that the nickelback guy's chain on that album was:

rode k2-->neve 1073-->distressor

i couldn't tell you about any of the others, but chances are there were probably tracked with neumann/telefunken/soundelux/other esoteric and ridiculously expensive mics

all that nickelback hardrock shit sounds like an sm7 to me, i'm no expert though. it's just got that really compressed to shit and really dry sound i associate with sm7 vocals.
i'm pretty sure the megadeth stuff is sm7 too right?

Mmmm... I don't trust to much in the SM7.... just because is it a dynamic Microphone.... I prefer ALWAYS a Condenser mic for vocals.

What do you think about the Shure KSM32 as a Vocal and Room Electric Guitar Microphone???

Cheers!

The SM7 kinda has a condensor like sound to it as far as I can tell.

The SM7's claim to fame is the Micheal Jackson “Thriller” record. They could have used any vintage microphone on the planet, but they choose the Shure SM7. I've read that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have used the SM 7 on vocals on ever album they have done. I've also heard that 3 Doors Down uses this mic a lot. You can see James Hetfield from Metallica singing into a Shure SM 7 on the “Some Kind Of Monster” DVD.

System of a Down - Toxicity said:
To capture Tankian's vocals, Schiffman used a Shure SM7 for the more aggressive tracks. “It can withstand a lot of high SPLs, and it doesn't fold or buckle,” he says. “It's a pretty warm mic.”

Do some searches on the sm7 and you'll find lot's of postive info.
To me, aggressive & upfront vocals = sm7.

SM7's are great, I love mine. Very punchy and aggressive sounding, but at the same time very smooth. It's also very good at controlling sibilance, so you can compress the crap out of stuff, and the t's and s's don't shred your eardrums.
