Mikael SMOKES? Now I'm Impressed...........

^ I don't care actually. and somehow I doubt that smoking pot increases your songwriting skills.

I dont care that you dont care either. I was just wondering whether they do or not.

Weed can boost your creativity and a lot of bands have experimented with substances.

completely wrong, and obviously you haven't done it so this is a useless reply. tell that to the thousands of bands that have utilized marijuana as a tool of experiementation (it happens in this genre more than you could possibly imagine) and to those of you that think that pot just makes you dumber are entirely ignorant, and I would bet my life on the fact that you've never tried it. so shut your pie hole.

I was being completely, and entirely serious to the point of exploding. Once the world aligns to my astrological symbol again I will win the lottery.

Actually, I remember reading that some researchers actualy tested this theory - they took a certain number of atists (all kinds - painters, musicians, everything) and tested them, on drugs and off, and I don't remember the exact details, but then end result was that when they were high, they weren't prolific and by and large, what they created was quite shitty.

So while it may not make you dumber, it doesn't make you a better musician, it may even make you worse.

internet is seriouz

hahaha i wrote that hoping you (or stefan) would say that

i can agree with this statement

you're telling me that they conducted a scientific study whereby they rated the works of artists on drugs and off drugs, and then scientifically rated these pieces of art and came to the conclusion that their art is "better" off the influence of drugs?

lmao. get real.

Obviously art is (as you say) ~~subjective~~ and I wish I can answer this, but honestly I don't remember, but I do remember that it made sense. So either the researchers gave them to draw/play/whatever a certain something beforehand, and they did the same thing high and not high, and the first time it sucked (I mean, there are only so many ways you can draw an apple, right?), or else they had some other parameter. Maybe, while sober, the artist had a cohesive piece of art that he wasn't able to create while high.

Again, there WAS such a study, but I just can't remember the details - if anyone's feeling especially bored, you can find it probably.

well, i'd love to see it. most studies on the effects marijuana are totally unprofessional and extremely biased.

^ Depends. I keep in touch with natural 'drvgs' not the ones that they make in labs and the ones you'd have to inject.

Weed, Hash and mushrooms are all you need.

As for songwriting under the influence, it has worked with me a coupla times... but i prefer writing sober.

IMO, ciggies suck gonads. I've been trying to quit for a while now. but i dont go looking for ciggies, if they are around i smoke, if not come nothing.

^ don't forget natural hallucinogenics!

I would say that for me, songwriting skills seem be given a positive edge while under the influence (certainly regarding originality and atmosphere), the problem is that my playing skills go down the drain (trying to record a 180+ bpm technical riff perfectly while stoned can be a frustrating experience). So to use that to your advantage you have to make shitty recordings (or just write down the music) under the influence and then rerecord the ideas while sober. Also, I think just the fact that using these drugs can be an enlightening experience and make you experience certain feelings and have certain ideas, will give you something that you will carry with you while sober, thus having an influence even when sober. That's something which people often forget, you don't have to be under the influence at the exact moment of songwriting for it to be able to have an impact and contribute to your ideas.

Exactly, a good documentary for ignorant anti-cannabis people to watch would be this (it has 11 parts): [ame]http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=kMDVveEZjI8[/ame]

Not just the fact that you can't use it for its psychoactive properties is ridiculous when faced with the fact that the 2 biggest killers alcohol and especially tobacco are legal (it's healthier to smoke pure pot than tobacco, since even heavy pot use has been shown not to be linked to cancer, and research suggests it even has a protective effect by causing programmed cell death in tumors, although a certain amount of lung damage can obviously not be overcome since you're inhaling heated plant matter, but in no way comparable to the damage tobacco causes).
Combine that with all those young lives ruined by getting caught for simple posession in the US (and the billions of dollars and manpower wasted towards that "goal", that could be used to keep harder drugs off the street or for education and other things), the fact that the medicinal value of marihuana isn't being explored the way it should be (it's one of the safest therapeutically active substances there is, and has beneficial effects on at least 200 conditions, and probably many more but the research isn't being done), the fact that it could be used as a source of paper of higher quality than paper made from wood, can be made into food that contains all the essential amino acids and essential omega fatty acids, is one of the best potential sources for biofuel, can be used to make clothing and thousands of other products, etc...
This simply is the most useful plant on earth for humans, and in the US, not even the industrial type (contains almost no THC) is allowed to be grown. Why? Because of the companies that are in control of most of the money now, and don't want to lose it, and because of the political history of lies to serve other purposes.
Anyway, [/rant], this is just something which I find tragical, and I don't even live in the US!
Btw, if anyone wants to see some research papers on this subject, just ask, I can get most of the ones you have to pay for for free using my college connection.
