Ask Soul Forlorn, he can go as low too. I'm amazed at how high Mikael can go with the gut screams, fuck he's good!
Like you, I have no clue how this is possble. It's a talent that blows me away.
Speaking of Soul Forlorn, the guy's a fucking genius. Just thought I'd throw that in there. His new tune As the Candle Flickers is just beyond fucking cool, over 11mins of non-repetitive anarchy. What some people can do in their basements is just amazing.

practice... i can actually get lower then him on the albums... but he doesnt go the lowest thats possible... im sure he can go alot lower then he does though
I tried it today whaen I was mowing my lawn, and I was pretty impresse d with how low I could go. Nothing close to Akerfeldt, but I'm getting there. I'm also amazed at how he can hold the growl for so long. He's got more lungs than Maynard James Keenan.

As for going that low, I think it just has to do with your regular voice. My regular voice is naturally somewhat low so I find it quite easy to growl in that tone. I really have a difficult time trying to do a higher pitched growl like Akerfeldt on Orchid and Morningrise especially. His voice is much stronger than mine will ever be. That's where Mikael's talent is in growling- the fact that he can do it in so many different tones and how long he can hold a steady growl.

One my my friends actually told me that he breaths out when he sings, not like we do when we try to imitate it. We usually breath in, so its easy. But try breathing out, its hard at first, couse it sounds like a wisper.
