mike's brutal voice

do you know how does mike make the brutal voice? Does he use voice disortion or it's natural?

Well to me it sounds about as natural as it could get. Just because he can produce incredibly brutal growls, doesn't mean its not natural.

I'm just impressed he can pull off the clean vocals so well after those Death grwols.

Bloody Hell, just because the man can pull off those gorwls, doesn't mean they aren't natural. I can growl naturally, and my parents still have trouble distinguishing between me and my CD player.

Well normally it's just his natural voice, but he uses effects sometimes. like at the start of Demon of the Fall, around 7:30 in Master's Apprentices, and the weird shit at the start of By the Pain I see in Others.

Reverse that part, no special effects, just a simple reverse.

I've seen Opeth live and I can say that Mike growls naturally. He doesn't use any distortion. When singing "Demon of the Fall" he had to cough before switching to normal voice at the end part.

no, it just sounds different because that's how his voice sounds in a recording booth.

im pretty sure some reverb and delay go into some of the growling parts,SOME not all most of the time in very subtle amounts but enough for them to affect the overall sound,A godsend of a voice he has nonetheless

the majority of it is mikael.

some parts are obvious effects like by the pain i see in others "watery vocals" effect

His brutal voice is as natural as it can get. Listen to him in The Leper Affinity or Serenity Painted Death, no effects... just pure growling bliss.
