I just can't believe the steel beams coming out of that turn weren't padded... that's negligence on the part of whoever designed it

No amount of padding could save you at those speeds,

it's not that there wasn't padding. those poles shouldn't be so close to the track.

Really sad for him, and also much for his family and friends for whom he was surely a source of great hope and pride.

On another note, I heard they were fixing the track because it was too dangerous.
