Mix help please - old Slayer song w/di's

The guitar tone and drums are a dead giveaway. Drums, especially. The overheads sound very very strange and the comp on your drum chain is pumping like a motherfucker.

The guitar tone is just not there. I can't place right now what it is that's wrong with it, though.

Drums: Yeah that's probably your problem. :)

Guitars: I can't really figure out what it is about the tone that isn't sitting well (too much low mids, maybe?) , although it is a bit fizzy. Try a low pass on the guitars in the 10k range.

Superior typically just needs glued. I wouldn't go so far as to clamp the shit out of it. Keep in mind that the samples in SD2.0 are far from raw. Most of them already have post processing on them, although it's hard to tell what.

Guitar tone wise, it sounds loud. Not too loud in the mix, but just SOUNDS loud, like you've compressed the shit out of it and then EQ'ed it to hide clipping. Not sure if that's what you did or not, though. What impulses are you using?

BTW: Here's a 10 minute mix (sans your solos) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8290798/ccc187307 btcc.mp3

Is the low end as out of control as it sounds to me? My current sub is kind of boomy...

Thanks for both the mixes. I do think i'm using too much processing and need to put more time into shaping the sounds.

They are Catharsis IR's and i was trying some different eq and pulled alot across like 5-6k or so trying to minimize fizz. Then brickwalled it which was probably stupid in retrospect. My thinking was a cranked guitar sound that was nice and level to mix. Both of your mixes are more lively, not stomped like mine.

Again, i value your time and thanks for helping me. Good guys! Hopefully i'll get some time this weekend to work. Life gets in the way of fun.

Compression is your friend, not your wife.
