Most controversial Sneap forum thread evar!

Same here... and actually i prefer Andy's and Colin's productions from those days than the more recent ones.

+ as some others mentioned :

-Terry Date with Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power & The Great Southern Trendkill (i don't like the production on Far Beyond Driven that much)
+Deftones' Around the Fur & The White Pony

-Sepultura's chaos AD

-Ross Robinson with Sepultura's Roots & Slipknot's s/t album

:OMG:

Really? I think that's one of the thinnest albums I've heard in my life!

Likewise, it sounds terrible on every playback system I've used. Trendkill isn't much better; the grainy guitars kill the midrange.

I love the grainy guitars :) They're just a tad too scooped on this record for my tastes though...
I'm currently trying a guitar sound with the same kind of vibe (sharp, grainy, ...), but less scooped, thicker, less gainy. I'll post samples soon.

Clayman is song wise for the best In Flames album. Overall not a really a fan of that In Flames kinda sound. But Clayman was sound really good tho.
It's not that good for me to use as a mixing reference.

I think if it comes to rawness for me nothing beats Slipknot - IOWA by Ross Robinson.

Seriously, is it just me or is the bass wooly and undefined on clayman.
My room isn't the best for bass, but i am comparing this other mixes and it just sounds like a constant ear sucking rumble

mmm

i'm slightly unsure about the quality of a mix designed for commercial general public release that sounds muddy on anything other than high end equipment in good acoustic environments.

Ofc it has artistic and technical merit, but surely not the cleverest thing to do, overall

very good point.... i don't see the use if it only sounds good in a properly treated studio, that's dumb.

there are some amazing productions that sound equally as amazing on every playback source i listen thru.
