Most recent album that blew you away...

Demiurg-breath of the demiurg

Rogga rules!

Novembers Doom-the novella reservoir

Octavarium was an AWESOME Song, easily top 5 DT songs of all time. The album as a whole is mediocre and the keyboard and guitar tones piss me off more than they encourage my listenership. LaBrie's vocals sound excellent. I can only fathom what their upcoming 25 minute epic will be like.

Pain of Salvation - Scarsick (OK fine its not as good as other classics, but I am loving every second of it.)

The new Isis album is ace, "In the Absence of Truth". If you like bands like Neurosis, Breach, Red Sparowes or any of that Hydrahead type of stuff then check it out if you haven't already. Also, in a similar vein, look up Celeste from France, found them on MySpace the other day, their CD, "Pessimiste(s)" should arrive in the post in a couple of days, but the tracks on the site are awesome, especially Diluons nos Souvenirs... www.myspace.com/unhiverdeplus

One of the best of alltime that i've been listening to a lot recently is Kollapse by Breach from Sweden whosplit in 2001 unfortunately, the best bands never survive!

few of the guys live nearby in southside chicago
badass cd my fav.track is #3 drown the inland mere
Iwould recommend checking it out for slower paced death metal w/ understandable vocals and a dark atmosphere

Swano does next to nothing, even though his drumming is of course workman-like (akin to Dismember's drummer; solid!), and the inclusion of his keyboard work was a really good, atmosphere-rendering idea!

What is this Breach you speak of? I went to look for them on Metal-archives and found nothing. Are they metal?

They are metal as far as I'm concerned, post metal godfathers and there are some songs from their last album on the unofficial myspace, Mr Marshall is on Kollapse, as is Lost Crew... They broke up in 2001 so don't have their own myspace... Lost Crew isprobably the best song they have on that page.
Seriously, track down Kollapse, it made me take all of the silliness out of my metal, no more Dragonforce, Cradle of Filth bollocks, s'why I call it post metal, where metal should be evolving to.Thisis their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/sphincterani

A list of albums that define my musical tastes... Not all metal, but all are great...

Isis - Oceanic
Mastodon - Leviathan
Neurosis - The Eye Of Every Storm
Breach - Kollapse
Kyuss - Blues For The Red Sun
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
Led Zepellin - 1
Tool - Lateralus
Melvins - Stag
Bohren and Der Club Gore - Black Earth

If no one ever makes any more music, I'll be happy listening to these til I die. Bohren needs to be checked out if you don't know them, they're on Ipecac, Mike Patton of Faith No More's label, the darkest jazz you will ever hear. I played it to a friend and he described it as music to listen to at three in the morning with the lights off, a big joint in your hand and a beautiful girl sucking your cock. How true. He's greek so he's kinda allowed to say that kind of thing...
