Most underrated Opeth song

Yeah, DrX. Small and simple... but sets up for a slaughter. :heh:

JCP - For the most part, when I am on-line in this forum, MAYH is normally considered the least favorite of all Opeth's cds, and Karma is one song that is highly disregarded, except for a few of us on this site who think Karma is a kick-ass track. Hey, wait a minute. You just said when you're online in this forum it's normally least favored then said except for a few of us on this site who thinks it rocks. Which one you sticking with? I just want to know so when 5.0 gets here we've got our stories straight. :p Bottom line is, I think Karma is killer. The Night and the Silent Waters is one of my favorites on Morningrise. Off Morningrise? That's my favorite.

Dolphz - Opet, I mentioned this on another thread-Orchid and MAYH are also my faves. These are the ones I almost always reach for when I want to listen to Opeth. My theory is that I like these two the best because they are the heaviest and the darkest of the bunch. Agree? Agree... with that? 100% absolutely I do and (regarding the new CDs) I figure this is the reason for why I want to hear the heavier album over the mellow first. :)

Thorns - lol how can you say the Fneral portarit underrated? Everyone I know says thats the best track on the album, especially becuz of the great dual guitar solos in that song. hehWell isn't that a laugh. I hear the exact opposite ALL THE TIME. I can't hear someone say "I can't stand Dirge..." (like Hondo mentioned) without Funeral being immediately added with it. How can I say that? Hm. Well, just like you seem to think that the song Blackwater Park is underrated. I see you've adopted the same words of Mikael’s from his interviews. He called that song and I THOUGHT another off that album a riff orgy. Blackwater Park. Why I oughtta.. You don't hear people talk about it much you say? Well, I NEVER hear people talk about Funeral Portrait unless it’s demeaning. Pffft! Blackwater Park. Underrated?! YOU GOTTA BE KIDDEN ME! ;)

lol I dunno all my friends dig Funeral hehe, In GuitarWorld Mikael was asked by the magazine, whats the song you want to be remembered by and he chose Blackwater Park out of every single song, and he also said that was a failr easy decision...heheh Mike I dint know he called it a riff orgy, hehe Mike and I think on the same wave length  him and I are kindred, lol if you hear most of my riffs, lol youd know why even more so

Your riffs? Are you in one of the bands that I heard on that "review thread" and don't even know it? I'd like to hear something.

Yeah, Mikael said "riff orgy" to describe that song. It's been my favorite since the first listen because mainly it's opening and the ending. Later, I noticed, the entire song kicked ass.

I remember him saying he liked "When" as his favorite off MAYH a long time ago. It was mine too (though April Ethereal was a close runner up) and I'm proud to announce that "BWP" is mine off this one too. I think maybe... we just have good taste. :p Really though... I think I automatically assumed that my favorites can't possibly be underrated.

Right, when I am on-line most people on-line with me think that MAYH and Karma are not Opeth's best works...except for a few of us. ~ makes sense to me. :)

yeah, that does make sense, and I agree.
seems like lots of people prefer Still Life, and that just bewilders me...that's my least favorite album, while the other 4 are pretty much tied....

Karma is awesome...one of my favorite Opeth songs.

Hey, Thorns....I've never listened to your stuff, but I think I'll download some in a few minutes....just curious.

REALLY? I never have time to go in there. Too bad. I just downloaded it and gave it a listen. It's interesting. Some odd cords there, eh? And b, I couldn't really turn it up and get a good listen. I'll have to check it out again later. There's just too many people floating in and out of the office. I must get that artificial gravity regulator fixed already.

JCP - I said what I meant and I think I meant what I said or for that matter, didn't say, when I meant it.

Aight.

thanks for listening, yeh I try to stay a way from cliche chord progressions, that was the number one thing that attracted me to Mikaels playing, he has those odd beautiful chords he plays...hehe I try to dupilicate that...basiccly they are just minor chords that I augmented, or diminished the first being with an added minor third..hehe its all bout taking ur every day boring d minor chord and making it little more dissonant, erie, and somber

Hé hé... Thic Topic shows how people feel differently Opeth songs !! That's probably why Opeth is such a great band :)
<br>I Think "April Ethereal" is the most under rated song (as I red in this thread), as for me, it's the first Opeth song I heard, and still now I think it's their best song, and one of the best song ever written !! I loved it so much that I didn't like other songs on MAYH...

I don't really understand how it's possible that some of us can love another song more that this one... Probably because Opeth is a great band with a huge talent, and each one find his own definition of perfection in a particular song... :)

I must agree with the person who mentioned that all of Opeth is underrated. I also agree with the one who said the entire Orchid album is underrated. As far as songs, The Night and the Silent Water is most definitely underrated. You have to listen to all those harmonies to actually get what the song is all about. I know someone else already metioned all these things but i want my opinion to be known as well.

Most do. ;)
