hahaha nice.

it finally happened. i've finally rented enough bizarre shit that Netflix has now put Pink Flamingos on my front page shitz. HEY, YOU'RE SICK! YOU'LL LIKE THIS! haha.

Blue Velvet

well, it's not entirely fair to judge something like a Lynch film after just one viewing, but ehhhhhhh i didn't think that was so hot. Dennis Hopper was amazing, but the rest was just okay. not bad, not good, just eh. i think i was expecting more.

I didn't think Blue Velvet was one that required repeat viewings, like his others. It's not so outlandishly weird, and the overall theme is fairly straightforward. Try watching it again without thinking "it's a Lynch film," and it might work a lot more effectively. Hopper really is the star of the film though. I'd like to see the kind of parties this Dennis Hopper and the Dentist Steve Martin would throw, ha ha!

Watched Oldboy tonight. Haven't really heard too much about this one at all, other than the occasional recommendation, which surely worked to my advantage. Quite nicely done ..........

Oldboy kicks ass, lurch got me to watch that one.

but yeah, i totally went in with a "hooray, another Lynch film! bring on the bizarre."

Anyone here seen this?

Leprechaun's Gold (1949) Directed by Bill Tytla.

It's an animated short that I remember watching ALL THE TIME as a kid and i just searched the fuck out of it on imdb.com, disney.com and a bunch of other sites. I WANT TO SEE IT SO DAMN BAD. we used to have a tape of this and some old Popeye shorts back when I was around 5-10 years old but my parents taped over it.

Hust watched a movie called "Hotel". Bizarrel. I think it would have been just as cool with the sound off, as it was visually stunning, but the plot was incoherent. Here's the Netflix description:

"Like the movie Time Code, this experimental ensemble piece splits the screen into four simultaneous story lines: the filming of a "period movie," a documentary about the making of that movie, a murder plot and a bizarre maid service. The four disjointed tales ultimately converge during festivities of the Venice Carnival. Mike Figgis directs."

FOUR BROTHERS ... another surprisingly decent flick ... seems like Singleton is back in form.

New World:

It was basically the story of john smith, pocahontas and the jamestown settlement. Directed by terrence malick. Had the usual malick voiceovers ala thin red line, and stunning cinematography. Such a gorgeous movie, very slow moving and tranquil (Although it did have its fair of fight scenes, it primarily was a love story) From what i know , the movie was pretty much based on the facts. For his role i thought colin ferrell did fine, The girl who played pocahaontas was extremly beautiful as well. I thought it was a good movie and i really enjoyed it. Recommended.

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

shit rules. i love how even the simple plotlines by Terry Gilliam still make you question what exactly one is supposed to believe.

King Kong - UNRULY! I was quite skeptical about how Jackson was going to turn an hour-and-forty minute monster movie into a three-hour epic, and for the first hour, I thought things were dragging a little - but my goat, when shit kicks off in this flick, it kicks off impressively. Jaw dropping action sequences, and a genuine heart to the movie as well. It was a nice touch making Ann Darrow sympathetic to Kong, really changed the emotional dynamic of the film.
