"Ok guys... I've been trying to wonder how this guy records his drum sounds. I know they're electronic drums, but I'm not sure if he uses drum machines, softsynths or drum pads and if the rhythms are sequenced or actually performed live.

What do you think or know about this?

I've got software like Rebirth and Fruity Loops, but they're only usefu for techno rhythms and the like, or so I think, cuz I haven't been able to sequence anything even close to blastbeats or even plain metal...

I'd appreciate any input on this..."

Mr. V has answered this before while speaking about Solens Rötter. I believe he has a certain drum software.

I'm been playing violin for 17 years and guitar for 9.

I compose for my band Austaras and play live guitar in Waves of Amphitrite

The Austaras myspace will be up in a month or so because we are recording out debut full length in late March.

If I remember well, he said he used just Cubase (probably with the piano roll tool) with a great library of drumsamples, bought btw.

Ez drummer, DFH and addictive drums are great softwares (some of them are VSTi - RTAS plugins, some stand-alone or both), more or less easy to use and depending of ur skill and production wise, you can get decent results.

I've never tried DFH but I've used its "sequel" software, Superior Drummer 2.0, extensively. It definitely has enough customization available to satisfy almost anyone's needs, I'd imagine.

I used Superior Drummer 2.0 for all the drum parts of my demo EP, which can be listened to and downloaded here:

Great sounds, especially for metal - it even has the functionality to vary the tone of drum hits so that blast-beats don't sound as if they were triggered. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I didn't know you were still putting out stuff. I know that I had been following you via MySpace for a long time. Anyway, yeah, the Superior Drummer stuff sounds good on your demo. What are you using to record in? I remember you having a much more guitar oriented sound back in the day..

I recorded in Cakewalk's Sonar producer edition 7, it got the job done. And yeah, I'm going to get around to re-recording and adding vocals to those really old tracks someday, but I've just been really busy with school. These new songs sprouted from lyrics I wrote about a year back, I tried to build up the songs organically from scratch in a way that fit the overall concept instead of trying to force a certain sound.

I'll let you know when I finally find the time to work on those old songs again :)

Cool, I love the EP dude. I'll be posting a review of it on the site today or tomorrow. It's solid stuff. I feel like your sound has matured, though I do miss some of your more soloy/Ensiferum kind of stuff.

Great, thanks for reviewing it! You've got a pretty well-run site, I must say. I'm glad you feel my sound has matured, but those old tracks will always be a part of who I am - can't wait to go back and re-work them eventually (not in this style of course, but just to make them flow better as cohesive songs with structure and, you know, lyrics!) This latest EP was a little more personal than my previous material, and I just wanted to build it from the ground up as a coherent work - in my eyes, at least, the chord progressions and song structures are the only possible ones I could have used to complement the lyrics.

I'm not saying your old stuff was bad or anything, dude. I'm just saying that this feels more focused and serious. ;)

Thanks for the props on the site. If you like it, feel free to follow on facebook and tell your friends about it. :p Usual spiel. ;)

Thanks, Elvina! I remember talking to you through comments before. Glad you liked Ode to Arinbjorn, it's finally getting released on a compilation with Agalloch and October Falls next month. Can't wait to have the finished product in my hands.

I'm starting to get mighty impressed by bandcamp.com, I pray to the mighty Atheismo that it gets more popular than MySpace.
Also, I love the stuff you put up Oskoreien.

having this topic become the "artist of this forum" thread...
today listening to borknagar after 4 looooong days of abstinence due to my pc break, i've started to paint again....i was about 4 months that i didn't hold a paintbrush in my hand.
i have some half-done works to finish, so today i finished this! it should have become a shield, but i did not find any tender metal to put on its edges, so tender and thin i could give it a round shape without fire, so i ended up painting them and writing runes.

This is pretty damn amazing! You have a great deal of attention to detail and neatness which I love. You are obviously extremely talented at this. Do you have more stuff to display by chance?? Exceptional work!

:yow:wow awesome lefay! what do the runes say? i can only make out "peace to..."

til ars ok frid (i wish i remember good, if not i cannot change it anymore  i have the doubt it was fridar instead of frid...anyway that number of runes fit perfectly with the space i had )
it means "to prosperity and peace"

@necro: i have show some older works in the previous pages...i try to find them out again!!!!

quite big, about 1 meter and 20 but it was easy because it's a quite simple design....i like the external border because i used a tecnique which is used to paint miniatures. i used a dry paintbrush to underline the natural veins of the wood (the brown paint on golden)

this is old...i don't like the colors anymore....one of the first efforts with acrilycs  but i like the design very much, two dragons taken from a runestone

this is my favourite....maybe because i took nearly a month to finish it....it is really big....1 meter per 50 cms so fucking full of detail....it drove me mad!
