can we stop pretending like there aren't different qualities of opinion though pls. it kind of goes without saying that there's more weight behind me loving shakespeare for 50 different reasons relating to the human experience than me loving bucky o'hare solely because it reminds me of a specific childhood memory, for example.

and besides, forgetting about 'objectivity' for a moment (a flawed concept in general), there's at least an argument to be made about patterns that have emerged through history when it comes to evaluating art, certain qualities that are valued across cultures and generations, common ground between works of art that 'stand the test of time', etc - i think when people say objective in this context they're often referring to what they believe to be those qualities.
