Being a huge MDB fan I have every official release from them.

This is how I'd rate their stuff:

The Angel and the Dark River - divine
Turn loose the Swans - divine
Trinity - you dont really need the three EP's if you get this, but as a collector i have it all.
The Light at the End of the World
As the Flower Withers

Songs of Darkness, Words of Light
34,788 % Complete

If you are low on cash you could start off with Meisterwerk I and II. Those are quite good best of-albums with the essential songs from all albums, and there are some videos and unreleased stuff too. The live-cd Voice of the Wretched is quite good too

Check out "The Angel and the Dark River" and "Turn Loose the Swans", definately, their most critically acclaimed and with good reason. "34.788%... Complete" is getting alot of stick from what I can see, but I must say I find it to be a very interesting and original album, though its quite different to all their other stuff.
