I haven't listened to this band in a really long time so I can't describe it well, but I enjoyed it a lot. I'll find a friends review nad post it here for you.

Band: Mystic Forest
Album: Romances
Year: 2004
Label: Cybertzara Records
Website: http://www.mysticforest.tk
Country: France

Genre: Black Metal / Melodic Black Metal with Classical Influences

Sounds Like: Burzum-mid-tempo style black metal laced with classical keyboard runs, folk instruments, and nice romantic rainy interludes / outros.

Production Quality: Better than most lo-fi style black metal, the guitars sound a bit treble-y for me, but overall very good, the drumming is nice and crisp, and the keyboards are very well produced. The vocals are turned down on the mix though.

Similar To: Wyrd, Aes Dana, Mirrorthrone, Eikenskaden

Overview: Mystic Forest is perhaps the leading band in the French BM scene, and Romances is their testament to greatness. Stefan Kozak does an amazing job combining the harshness of black metal with the beauty of classical work, with excellent romantic interludes and very poetic lyrics. This is definitely a must-have record for any fan of black metal.

I really enjoy "Romances", but this would seem like the LAST thing you'd like, J. All gothy and stuff... but then again your tastes are pretty random anyway  If you like this band, I'd also suggest their fellow Frenchie MIRRORTHRONE (drum machine, but bearable)

Mirrorthrone is from Switzerland. I might be able to lure Stefan Kozak into this very thread and have him talk about Mystic Forrest Gump and Eikenskkdnnkkkkhhg§hgoeawtfh himself. Shall I?

Do it bro. I'd loved to hear from him. :)

I swear to goat I've seen Mirrorthrone referred to as French in several magazines. Oh well
