Why the unholy fucking hell has noone mentioned Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal yet? Well, I'll do it:
Bergtatt has a great fucken story and Nattens Madrigal is up there on the cry-list a notch below One Rode to Asa Bay.

But not enough imho. A great concept album with music to match the story (as Demonspell noted) is a lot more rewarding than just a great album with great music.

I've seen Zero Hour live -- at ProgPower III. My head was spinning, those are some of the oddest time signatures I've heard.

I felt like I was listening to an epileptic fit.

Themes From The Marriage... comes to mind immediately, and Kveldssanger and Perdition City are two concepts whose unity is found in the music and succeed in having a consistent theme without relying upon the lyrics...
