I'm a Katatonia noob and need a good introductory cd. I've heard a few of their songs and wish to purchase an album.

Well, many would say Brave Murder Day is their best album and it is, but the easiest and best to get into of their post-Brave Murder Day albums are, Last Fair Deal Gone Down or The Great Cold Distance.

BMD is the album to go with if you're obsessed with Mike's vocals. Otherwise I definitely recommend the idea of working backwards through the catalogue. TGCD and VE are my fav Katatonia albums

Start with The great cold distance and then go backwards, imo.

I'll fourth it. It's not my favorite album, but it is the best place to start.

Oddly enough, I only really like four Katatonia albums. Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness, Last Fair Deal Gone Down and Brave Murder Day are the only albums I really like from Katatonia. Tonight's Decision was ok; however, the first track For My Demons is one of my all-time favorite songs from them, but the album is lacking to me.

Wow, it's almost blasphemous to put Viva Emptiness over Last Fair Deal Gone Down... But, (I think) I'm one of the few who'll say this, VE is my favorite Katatonia disc.

VIVA EMPTINESS and then Last fair deal gone wrong and lastly but not least Great cold distance.....!!!!.....PEAC EOUT
