need help getting snaretones I don't like :)

OMG, new kick/snare combo sounds AWESOME!

Details please! :D

EDIT: I meant details on the snare, i already read about the kick above ;)
thanks
about 50% original snare, 50% slate5 crack.

Original EQ'd seperately and bussed to the same bus as the slate (Slate had two narrow notches as well before that to reduce the ring), then some MH CS on that bus (not sure, but I think I had three small boosts going on..one at roughly 170 one around1.5k and one at around 4.5k or so.
not totally sure though, just what I believe to remember.

some compression on the same bus as well (MH CS smooth).
--> event horizon.
3dB reduction of API2500 on the drumbus (10ms atk). as well as tons of parallel comp.

same parallel bus etc

All good and all, but still the band has to like it no? did they?

that is the problem...half of the band wants exactly this (references: chimaira, Devildriver) and the other half wants the other thing (references: SN Iowa, LoG, Paragon, 3 inches).

so I told them what I'd do and why I'd do it...the rest is up to them, still waiting for the reply atm.

Do you use Event Horizon to clip the snare on its own track? I've been using Gclip for a little while, but keep hearing that Event Horizon is better. Do you use it in clip or limiting mode?

yep, clip-mode.

usually I'm using Elephant for that (if anything, more often than not I'm not clipping the snaretrack)..in this case I just thought I'd try event horizon.

I have just checked the latest Version. The original version is no more there, or not?

I would say that this is brilliant work!

But when listening to that after I read what kind of stuff you did with the nature snare etc etc I am just wondering why everything and everyone have to sound that mainstream these days. Don't get me wrong - that mix is very very good - but sounds mh... just.. mh... like a very good mix ;-) Can't explaing, but I am always happy when I work with a band which wants a more oldschool sound, more heart, more live... Cause those dudes were already there in the 80is and 90is and love old Dismember/Death/etc... But these band seems just too need such a kind of sound I would say.

Just two things regarding this mix/drums:

The blast beats are sounding very strange to me as well as I would say that the drums *could* be a little bit more backed of. Of course they are very upfront because you tweaked the snare over and over again. But maybe lowering kick & snare just 0,5db or something like that.

It seems to work in getting that 'The Last Kind Words' sort of snare punch you like :). Really lets the snare pop out of the mix.

I don't think I like the kick personally. It sounds a little bit plastic to me... there is something sort of annoying about the attack. Perhaps a different sample is in order?

The blast beats still sound weak as hell as does some of the faster snare work. I also feel that there is some low end missing, I really want that kick to fucking thunder at me lol.

Edit: Maybe it's not the kick, I dunno lol.

well, that's the problem with real snares, drummers don't hit as hard during blastbeats.

the mastering will take care of the general lowend, I didn't wanna take it too far since I'm not the one mastering it.

I wonder if some automation on the snare during the blastbeats might remedy that somewhat, also seems like the timing is a little off as well during the blasts.

it would, but I've actually even turned it down a bit during the blasts, becuase of that timing...

the problem is that it's not really off, but sounds weird cause it's triplets and everything else 16th (or the other way round), so I guess I have to live with that

That track already sounds mastered... Do you remove all that masterbus processing before sending it to the mastering or ...? I am just curiuos.. :goggly:

yep, I did some kinda rough-mastering to get the loudness etc.

that'll beremoved of course before sending it out

Ah ok, fair enough. Fancy posting some clips with nothing on the master bus, and again with your rough mastering?
