Need Help with a new computer

Hey cloy do you have links to the guide? Thanks in advance. Also I think I'm gonna keep my old comp for Internet shit and try to keep my new system relatively clean. Finally, is there anything I should look out for FireWire wise? I'd be using a presonus firestudio.

Guys will say that TI chipsets are the best, but they are also pretty expensive... I've had no problems with the firewire ports in my sony vaio notebook and my hackintosh (both the onboard ports and the pci card ports) with my 2 fp10s.

This guide is the lastest one. They leave out some of the hardware which was found in the previous articles. Basically, you have to find a friend with a mac, get them to make a bootable jump drive with the snow leopard image on it, you boot up your computer with it, and install snow leopard. I mean, its a bit more detailed, but you no longer need to do any terminal work. There is a file with 3 or 4 files for the mac, and that fixes all the "problems"that were fixed by doing terminal work. So literally, its just as simple as a windows install, at leats following this guide.

You can swap out some components, but MAKE SURE its the EXACT same motherboard and video card. You can swap hard drives and RAM, I mean, as long as they work on the board in the first place. But, I would stick with what they have listed.

Is that TI? im probably acting a bit paranoid, but I dont want to get a new computer and have to use my pod x3 as my interface..... again. Also i know theres the 6 pin and 4 pin firewire cable. Do they make a difference at all? I have a 6 pin to 6 pin and then I also have the 6 pin to 4 pin (or however many pins the smaller one is)

The 2 extra pins are for power.

For instance:

The M-audio Profire 610 can be powered via an adapter OR the firewire cable, as long as it's a 6 pin.

It's your money, but I'm just saying that I, and a big group of guys, haven't had any problems with non-TI chipsets.

oh ok so my presonus firestudio shouldnt have a problem with 6 pin or 4 pin, right? also I may get that chip *just* in case the one that comes with doesnt work. So if it works fine I can just send it back, or if it doesnt work, Ill just install it. Thanks again man. Im wondering if i should flip a coin on whether i should build one or not. Coins should make all importatn decisions

Build it.

I don't think I will ever buy a pre assembled one. Too much software on there that I don't need. Also, it is much more cost efficient and is a lot more fun. Just MAKE SURE if you are assembling one, to do it on a hard surface and ground yourself so you don't fry the components with static. I fried an old hard drive like that. :(

And yes, a 6 to 4 pin will work. I am using a 6 to 4 for my fp10s just fine.

yea, I think im gonna build it. Anyways my mom has this IT friend and he sent me a processor and motherboard combo that he thinks would be really good, ill post em here

what else would go well with this? also from what i could gather this is what I would need. I have a monitor and keyboard and mouse.

Hard Drive
OS (windows 7 64bit)
Video Card
Case
optical drives

Im also going to look into kev's route. I want to see a few options. THanks again guys, this is a really big help.

EDIT: realised that kev recommended the same motherboard :). anyways, Kevy I couldnt find that case on newegg. Id rather order everything from there. Anyother silent cases you recommend from there.
