Toujours attendu, sans cesse repoussé, le nouveau Negura Bunget vient enfin de sortir sous la forme d'un magnifique et très soigné digipack à l'artwork non conventionnel, aux couleurs claires, mais à l'allure inquiétante.

La formation de Transylvanie, plus particulièrement de Timisoara nous avait déjà gratifié d'une grande discographie, avec des albums crus et noirs comme un "Maiastru Sfetnic" nous assénant de riffs massifs, durs comme les pierres surplombant les noires montagnes de Transylvanie, de vocaux rugueux... Puis les prières à Zamolxe et aux anciens se calmèrent pour laisser place à un excellent "N'Crugu Bradului", plus en phase avec le concept du combo roumain, la terre, la spiritualité Dace, Zamolxe... Enfin, vînt "Inarborat Kosmos", un mini album se rapprochant presque du dark metal, avec des ambiances bien plus inquiétantes qu'avant, des parties ambient plus "flippantes" dirais-je... Qu'en est t-il du présent album ?

Après un travail acharné aussi bien sur la musique, que sur l'image ou le concept, Negura Bunget vient enfin de mettre son âme entière sur un oeuvre musicale. Groupe des pays de l'Est peut-être, mais nos roumains ne se contentent pas de pomper les légendes de pagan black metal du coin, en ne faisant qu'un simple album de black metal éthéré de nappes de claviers épiques ou de guitares sèches, non. L'âme des carpathes s'y trouve, de a à z, grace aux voix folkloriques typiquement roumaines, aux pickings de guitares tels une zongora et surtout aux différents instruments de musique comme un vieux cor ou une flûte de pan.

Non seulement, le groupe vient de trouver pour de bon, et totalement son style, mais ce disque, prenant et incroyable, se trouve sous le signe de l'unité. La musique, éprise entre passages ambient, musique folklorique roumaines et passages black metal plus agressifs ne connait pas de coupure qui pourrait donner à l'auditeur de se perdre durant l'écoute du disque. Ces différentes parties ne font qu'une durant les soixante-sept minutes de ce véritable chef d'oeuvre.

Naviguant par moments dans les eaux du folk, sachez que ce monumental "Om" n'a strictement rien à envier à Pagan Reign ou à Temnozor, par exemple. Ambiances uniques, il n'y a pas lieu à vouloir s'extasier comme lors d'une fête païenne ou d'un combat épique ; c'est le retour à la nature, celui de l'Homme à la Terre. Les guitares sont moins lourdes et rugueuses que par le passé et invitent à l'étonnement, les divers instruments folkloriques et les voix claires rêvent, et font rêver de par leur fluidité incroyable. Les percussions, les voix sèches et agressives typiquement black metal rappellent que la nature est belle, mais forte et sombre.

Plus de batailles, plus de fêtes, mais rêver, marcher seul... et se perdre... pour de bon. Inquiétant tout d'abord, comme nous le fait sentir l'introduction étrange avant de voir la beauté mélancolique des montagnes, voir la lumière du soleil se perdre contre les montagnes et les sapins comme nous le fait voir "Tesarul de Limini" et enfin comprendre tout au long du disque que nous ne sommes rien, que la nature est grande, belle et mélancolique (le passage vers les trois minutes de "Cunoasterea Tacuta" à la guitare sonnant telle une zongora et à la voix claire est incroyable et magnifique). Voir son esprit naviguer, et se perdre calmement, dans la quiétude la plus parfaite, durant un "Hora Soarelui" aux parties folkloriques vraiment impressionnantes...

Un voyage unique, au coeur de la Transylvanie, des vieilles légendes Daces pour un album impressionnant et ultime en matière de black metal atmosphérique.

A musique exceptionnelle, note exceptionnelle.




Le dvd inclus, quand à lui, même si ma note ne concerne que la musique et son concept en eux-mêmes, est bien plus que correct, à savoir des clips carrément parfaits, alliant parfaitement l'image et la musique, des titres live faisant le tour de leur carrière jusqu'à ce jour et une interview (en roumain, sous-titrée anglais) très interessante.

Achat indispensable.

Czwarta pełnominutowa odsłona Negură Bunget, krajan legendarnego Drakuli, już na pierwszy rzut oka różni się od dotychczasowych dokonań zespołu. Okładka płyty, podobnie, jak wydana w 2004 roku 'N Crugu Bradului, utrzymana jest w barwach ziemi, jednak w przeciwieństwie do swojej poprzedniczki bezpośrednio nawiązuje do natury – inspiracji muzyków. Odzwierciedla tym samym muzyczną zawartość krążka, który już od pierwszych sekund przepełniony jest niemal wyczuwalnym chłodem, kroplami deszczu i szumem wiatru. Intro Ceasuri Rele przynosi dreszcz niepokoju, wzmagającego się wraz z upływającym czasem trwania kompozycji. Mroczny nastrój opuszcza nas jedynie na chwilę – drugi utwór, Ţesarul De Lumini, choć stosunkowo spokojny w porównaniu z wcześniejszymi nagraniami grupy, zawiera rozbudowaną partię gitarową, która przewija się przez większą część trwania numeru. Wokal dołącza się dopiero po czterech minutach i w krótkim czasie ustępuje niepokojącym odgłosom, nasuwającym skojarzenia z opustoszałym w środku nocy lasem. Dalsza część ścieżki nie zaskakuje – powraca solówka, a jej miejsce zajmuje Edmond, którego struny głosowe ustępują po chwili miejsca gitarowym. W tle szybka perkusja i nastrojowe klawisze. Te ostatnie odgrywają ważną rolę w kolejnym utworze, Primul OM – refleksyjnym, momentami wręcz onirycznym, i pozbawionym prawie całkowicie warstwy lirycznej. Umieszczony na krążku jako czwarty Cunoaşterea Tăcută składa się natomiast z ostrzejszych riffów, sprawnej pracy perkusji i – na zasadzie kontrastu – spokojnego, lekko zawodzącego wokalu, przemieniającego się stopniowo w growling. Pewnym zaskoczeniem są instrumenty dęte, rozpoczynające utwór Înarborat oraz pojawiające się w jego środku brzmienia orientalne, które już za moment przeżywają swoje trzy minuty – tylko tyle trwa kolejna kompozycja, Norilor. Patenty, wykorzystane w następującym po nim De Piatră, mogą nasuwać skojarzenia z Sanctus Diavolos – ostatnią wydaną płytą Rotting Christ, zwłaszcza, jeśli chodzi o charakterystyczne dla tego zespołu zmiany tempa i duży nacisk na grę perkusisty. Również świdrujący riff i melodeklamacje noszą pewne znamiona twórczości kolegów z Półwyspu Bałkańskiego, jednak podobieństwo to nie jest w żadnym stopniu rażące. Cel Din Urmă Vis oparto na tym samym schemacie, co wspomniany już Ţesarul De Lumini. Długi gitarowy wstęp, wokal – tym razem zdecydowanie bardziej drapieżny – oraz tworzące niepowtarzalny klimat odgłosy nocy. Z kolei swoje folkowe korzenie muzycy ujawnili w utworze Hora Soarelui. Dźwięk aerofonów doskonale komponuje się z partiami wokalnymi o zaskakująco tradycyjnym brzmieniu. Wraz z ostatnimi słowami utworu kończy się rola wokalisty: koncepcja outro Al Doilea OM przewidziała jedynie obecność chóru oraz podstawowych instrumentów.
Muzycy Negură Bunget od samego początku udowadniali, że stać ich na dużo więcej niż tylko powielanie osłuchanych do granic niemożliwości black metalowych standardów. Nowy album, choć niezwykle spójny, zaskakuje różnorodnością – zarówno w obrębie poszczególnych utworów, jak i całego materiału. Płyta obowiązkowa dla wszystkich (otwartych na eksperymenty) wielbicieli klimatycznej muzyki.

Tal y como en el apasionante mundo del alfabeto latín existe una forma tan gráfica de destacar unas letras por encima de otras como es el caso de las mayúsculas, en el mundo de la música debería haber algo parecido. Históricamente ha quedado demostrado que a la hora de comprarte un disco no te puedes guiar por el nombre del grupo y, todavía menos, por la portada. Se debería contratar a un individuo con pintas de Igor, el ayudante del doctor Frankenstein, que al entrar en la tienda de discos, te dijera con mirada penetrante:“Señor, este es un disco mayúsculo!”. Existe la alternativa de hacer caso a los individuos como yo, que escribe opinando sobre discos, pero generalmente se suele tratar, como en mi caso, de gente con grandes problemas mentales y marítimos.

Así, para expresarlo de una forma muy gráfica, en el mundo de las letras latinas, el “Om” de Negura Bunget sería una gran mayúscula hiper decorada, como las que encabezan los códices medievales. Este disco resulta ser un apasionante viaje hacia las esencias mas primigenias del Black Metal, donde el headbanging se debe ver substituido por un simple cerrar de ojos que te permita liberar tus instintos y pasiones de sus ataduras carnales para que así emprendan el camino iniciático que nos propone Negura Bunget con “Om”.

OM (AUM): a hinduizmus és a buddhizmus legszentebb mantrája, amely egyetlen hangban összefoglalja a teljes Univerzumot és a teremtő Brahmant. Ugyanez a szótag román nyelven azt jelenti: EMBER.
Negură Bunget (ejtsd: Negurö Bundzset): archaikus román nyelven fekete, ködös rengeteg.
Ennek alapján már körvonalazódhat az olvasóban hogy milyen is lehet a ’95 óta létező black metal együttes legújabb (és legjobb) lemeze amely a Code666 kiadó gondozásában jelent meg. A temesvári NB-et hangzatos (ál)nevű zenészek alkotjak: Hupogrammos Disciple, Negru-vagyis Fekete-, Sol’Faur Spurcatu; élőben közremuködő zenészek-Ermit, Ager, Iedera. A súlyos, agresszív black metal hagyományos román hangszerekkel és dallamokkal való ötvözése egyedi hangzásvilágot teremtett, amely máris jókora underground rajongótábort toborzott a bandának.

Lássuk tehát, miből áll az OM:
Ceasuri Rele (Rossz órák): Mintha egy horrorfilmbe csöppennénk. Hátborzongató háttérzajok, beteges suttogással aláfestve, amely fokozatosan üvöltéssé erősödik. Sötétben, egyedül hallgatva káros lehet a szellemi egészségre.

Tesarul De Lumini (A Fényszöv&#337: Hosszas gitármorajlással és doblüktetéssel indul a lemez leghosszabb tétele-több mint 12 perces. Van benne minden ami egy epikus black nótához kell, kíméletlen hörgéssel megtoldott fülzúzástól az ólómsúlyú instrumentális szakaszokig. A zene sziklakemény, mégis időnként előbukkannak maradandó és szépséges melódiák, melyekre viszont aztán úgy zúdul a dühödt tombolás mint facsemetére a lavina. Itt már megszólalnak a népi hangszerek is…a finálé pedig lélegzetelállító.

Primul OM (szójátek: Az első Ember, ugyanakkor Az első Mantrá-t is jelentheti): Néhány bevezető szó után felharsan egy elnyújtott OM. Síri hangulatu, már-már filmzenét idéző szám, halk beszéddel aláfestve; minden szöveget románul írtak, de itt a hangsúly amúgy is a zenén, a hangulaton van.

Cunoasterea Tacuta (A csendes tudás): Komótos tempójú hosszú szám, hörgés és panaszos, gyászos hangvételű tiszta ének váltakozásával, a háttérben pánsíp törékeny dallamaival. Inarborat (leginkább “Erdővel borított”-nak fordíthatnám): Itt már rendesen bekeményítenek. Ha felnyomod a hangerőt, ez a szám kertelés nélkül letépi a fejed.

Dedesuptul (Az alant): Lásd a fenti leírást. Black metal a javából, fekete mint egy leszögezett koporsó belseje, hosszú levezetéssel amely ismét vegytiszta horrorfilm-hangulat.

Norilor (A Felhőknek): Ha az előző dal végén Drakula még csak lopakodott az áldozata utan, itt bizony támad… Nincs ének, de nem is hiányzik. A Bunget instrumentális témái messze a legerősebbek amelyeket ebben a műfajban valaha hallottam.

De Piatra (Kőből): A rövidke lazítás után olyan dühvel támadnak Bungeték mintha egyből le akarnák gyilkolni a hallgatót. A legzúzósabb tétel az albumon. Eszelős hörgés, zakatoló tempó amely a dal közepén belassul, hogy teret engedjen egy gyászos gitárszólónak, majd gyorsulás és a szomorkás tiszta vokálok felbukkanása után újraindul a hörgésáradat; kíméletlenül elsodor. Nincs menekvés…

Cel Din Urma Vis (A következő álom): A második monstre tétel, több mint 10 perces. Csodálatosan gazdag dal, egyetlen lapos, érdektelen pillanata nincs. Hát így kell epikus BM-alt írni és előadni!

Hora Soarelui (Naptánc, hora=a román néptánc egyik stílusa): A címnek megfelelően a harcias kezdés után valósággal népzenébe vált, majd a téma fokozatosan fejlődik, átalakul, kiteljesedik. Lehunyt szemmel hallgatva láttam magam előtt a fenyvessel borított hegy ölében lángoló tábortüzet és a körülötte Naptáncot járó embertestű démonokat-mert ez nem a jámbor juhászok és földművesek zenéje…

Al Doilea Om (A második Ember/Mantra): Nyomasztó, éjsötet zárótétel, vokálok nélkül.

Konklúzió: 8/10

(Fém)zenei utazás egy vad vidéken amely aránylag közel van Magyarhonhoz, s mégis mintha elérhetetlenül távol lenne. Aki igényes, művészi értékkel (is) bíró black metalt kíván hallgatni, netán most ismerkedik a műfajjal, feltétlenül probálja ki az OM-ot!

Se é verdade que o mercado vai ditando as suas leis, existirão sempre contra correntes culturais para os que preferem sonoridades menos comuns. Inicialmente como Wiccan Rede, Hupogrammos Disciple's e Negru encetam em 1995 um percurso muito pouco convencional, ao juntarem elementos Black Metal a uma série de outros estilos e direcções que fluem para fora do estilo primordial. Com uma forte carga de espiritualidade e paganismo, o agora trio romeno, percorre espaços mitológicos sediados nas florestas da Transilvânia, recorrendo a uma musicalidade estranha, onde não faltam alguns magníficos instrumentos medievais retirados ao folclore local.
O quarto álbum dos Negurã Bunget é absolutamente devastador, negro e intenso. Ao longo de «Om» somos confrontados com complexas e opressivas passagens, desoladoras e gélidas paisagens onde a luz não consegue penetrar ou ainda pantanosas e tumultuosas composições cuja densa neblina nos arrasta para o mais profundo desespero. As tonalidades mais avant-garde e alguma melancolia à mistura, proporcionam momentos incrivelmente belos e melodias transcendentais.
«Om» necessita de espaço e dedicação, caso contrário correrá um sério risco de nunca passar de música ambiente... no mínimo um enorme desperdício.

Skivbolaget Code666 har specialiserat sig på att ge ut extrem och riktigt udda musik. Negura Bunget från Transylvanien är inget undantag. Bandet har givit ut tre fullängdare och två mini-cd´n sedan starten 1995, då de började som en duo och gav ut sin första demo. Redan året därpå kom första fullängdaren, döpt till Zirnindu-Sa. Därefter blev duon en trio och skivutgivningen fortsatte. Tro mig när jag säger att det inte är en lätt uppgift att beskriva Negura Bungets märkliga, närmast ambienta black metal. Tro mig också när jag säger att detta är ett förvånansvärt fascinerande och känsloladdat konceptalbum, fullsmockat med stämningsfull och bombastisk musik. Det här är definitivt inget man sätter på när föräldrarna hälsar på, när det är party eller innan man ska ut på krogen, men vill man skapa en film i sitt eget huvud är det bara att blunda och lyssna. Storslagna scener kommer att spela upp sig innanför dina ögonlock och du behöver inga droger för att åka på en seriös tripp.
Hade Om givits ut under det tidiga 70-talet hade bandets musik säkerligen beskrivits som progressiv rock, psykedelia eller möjligtvis space rock, för det är bara i undantagsfall som detta påminner om vanlig black metal. I ”Inarborat” och på några andra ställen kan man höra det, men Negru, Sol Faur och Hupogrammos gör så mycket mer av genren än flertalet av sina kollegor. Jag kan inte annat än att kapitulera inför detta närmast symfoniska mästerverk.

Ho sempre nutrito un amore particolare nei confronti dei rumeni Negura Bunget e loro mi hanno sempre ricompensato con bellissimi album, delle gemme da custodire gelosamente.
“Om” rappresenta il quarto album della band di Timisoara, dopo l’ottimo “’Ncrugu Bradului” e devo dire che sin dal primo ascolto sono rimasta impressionata dall’enorme emozione che mi ha provocato “Om”.
L’ultimo lavoro della band è un album ricchissimo di fascino che ricrea alla perfezione le atmosfere e gli ambienti della loro terra natia, chiudendo gli occhi è facile ritrovarsi nelle lande fredde e affascinanti della Transilvania. “Om” è anche un lavoro complesso, di difficile assimilazione, certamente non adatto alla massa, le composizioni sono molto articolate e si passa da tempi dilatati, quasi a voler dipingere un paesaggio immobile e assoluto ad accelerazioni improvvise dove appare il cantato ora straziante e lancinante ora in clean vocals davvero evocative ed emozionanti. Inoltre gli inserti dark/ambient non fanno altro che aumentare la carica emotiva del lavoro sottolineando i momenti più riflessivi e di meditazione. L’incedere delle canzoni ha un che di solenne, di mistico, di “commovente”, è impossibile rimanere impassibili all’ascolto di tale bellezza, i Negura Bunget sanno disegnare con la loro musica dei paesaggi che sembrano veri, ci sente immersi realmente nella loro realtà, nella loro tradizione e natura.
Tutte le undici tracce di “Om” sono di ottimo livello, non c’è un unico punto morto nell’intero cd e in esso spiccano sicuramente la seconda traccia “Tesarul De Lumini” e la seguente “Primul Om”, i cui riff monolitici sembrano davvero esser incisi nella roccia più dura.
Inoltre la versione digipack contiene anche ben nove tracce bonus video, quindi non bisogna lasciarsela scappare.
I Negura Bunget si confermano una delle realtà più valide in ambito black metal e spero continuino così.

Quo vadis black metal? To je pitanje koje si postavljaju mnogi, kako fanovi, tako i oni koji su aktivni u ovoj sceni. Problem, to se slažu svi, jeste činjenica da je nivo tolerancije u ovom žanru izuzetno nizak. Drugim riječima, potrebno je jako malo da svojim pokušajem inoviteta postanete pop, muzika za balavce ili nešto slično pogrdno, samo ne true black metal. Pa opet, vodeći bendovi tog žanra mijenjaju svoj stil, orijentišu se prema korijenima, sviraju prljavi rock'n'roll ili bilo šta drugo, što se ne može smatrati mainstream-om. Sama definicija tog stila je onda na rubu toga da se prestane prepoznavati po muzičkom izražaju, već po javnom mijenju same scene. Na neki način to daje jako puno prostora za inovativnost, jer granice nisu definisane, sa druge strane je to veliko ograničenje jednog stila. Zvuči komplikovano? I jeste! Evo jedan primjer - bend Negura Bunget. Rumunski black metal bend, koji je mrtvi underground, čiji tiraž albuma jedva da dogura četverocifreni broj, pa opet se vodi diskusija oko toga, da li ovo što ovaj trojac (nekada dvojac), iz rodne grude poznatog grofa Drakule, fabricira, možemo nazvati black metalom. Razlog tome neki nalaze u njihovoj ideologiji, koja nije baš po klišeju "satanizam, rat, smrt, ubi vjernika, zapali crkvu" i slično, već se više bazira na izvornoj vezi čovjeka sa prirodom, dok drugi kao dokaz prizivaju muziku benda, koja je u više navrata akustične prirode, puna narodnih instrumenata Rumunije, te etno momenata kulture te zemlje.
Isti slučaj je i sa novim albumom po imenu "Om". Više od pola vremena albuma, bend zalazi u atmosferične, mirne muzičke izraze, pretežno odsvirane na akustičnim žičanim instrumentima, popraćenim jako lijepim duvačkim upadima, a sve to uz određene klavijature. Sve to se onda prelijeva u old school black metal (po staroj definiciji. Boga (pardon, Sotonu) pitaj, kako se na to sada gleda) sa brzim picking-om melodija, blastbeat-om i naravno vokalom gospodina Hupogrammos-a. Album "Om" je dakle ponovo pravi ringišpil emocija, pun uspona i padova, mirnih momenata, da bi "iza ćoška" opet naišao pravi black metal haos. Album je pun kolaža koji vas instantno prebacuju u rumunske šume, vode vas kroz polja i sela i vi se osjećate kao Dante uz Virgil-a, uz veoma impresivan audio doživljaj.
Album je konceptualne prirode, tako da se preporučuje da se sluša u cjelini. Na žalost, tekstovi su svi na rumunskom jeziku, a prevoda na engleski nema, čak ni u originalnom dizajnu omota albuma (koji je, usput rečeno, opet impresivan). Bez obzira na to što bend dakle možda pjeva i o tome kako se sadi kupus u Rumuniji (provjeriti ne možemo), činjenica je da ovaj album u sebi ima dionice neopisive ljepote za opuštanje, a isto tako i odličnih riffova za kojima čezne svaki ljubitelj metal muzike. "Om" je bend sam producirao, kao i sva svoja izdanja, tako da tu ima mjesta za kritiku, iako se može reći da i ta nesavršenost jako pridodaje cijelom dojmu djela.
Negura Bunget je dakle underground, što je za neke pozitivno, a za nekoga je upozorenje da ovo ne dira. Ali, ako mene pitate, ovo jeste sigurno jedan pravac kojim black metal može ići, a da ne gubi kvalitetu. Koliko god to bilo protivno nekoj ideologiji same black metal scene, ovim albumom Negura Bunget definitivno zaslužuje više pažnje, a u diskusiju o tome da li je ovo zaista black metal ili ne, ne želim da ulazim... uostalom, who gives a fuck?
Ostaje samo žaliti što ovaj bend nismo mogli vidjeti u Sarajevu, kako je bilo planirano. Ko zna, možda se Uriel Productions već nalazi u nekim pregovorima za novi termin. Poželjno je u svakom slučaju.

"OM" - rumunska riječ za "čovjek", ali je također i vokal koji se veže uz najznačajnije koncepte razvoja duha, te se smatra primarnim zvukom univerzuma.

Negurã Bunget's fourth and latest opus entitled "Om" is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is not simply music, but an epic and grand journey, a spiritual journey that is breathtaking. This recording should be listened to in full to truly enjoy it, it cannot just be sampled. Every second of this journey is as good as any before it, not one moment should be skipped.

Untainted by simplicity, it is packed with emotion, full of raw power, and amazing beauty. Variety is alive and well throughout and never does a dull moment rise. You won't find mindless brutality or a collage of the same riffage and percussion.

The guitar tone is low and heavy, creating that raw power. Excellent percussion is evident and has the largest variety. Every instrument flows with one another and is not overdone. They are played with skill and each one has a very important role.

Both clean and harsh vocal styles are strong and give a lot to the present emotion. All vocals are in their (Negurã Bunget's) native tongue and it shouldn't be any other way. The language really gives it a lot of beauty, emotion, and that strong power.

The atmosphere is like nothing else, painting a picture that is soaked in awe. It gives an impression that will keep you listening, keeping you eager to find out what lies next. Exciting you every single moment every instance that is Om.

Not a single track is less significant than another, all eleven tracks make up one piece of work, it is one, not a collection of tracks like so many other albums are.

Videos were made for the tracks "Cunoaºterea Tãcutã" and "Norilor" (possibly more, these are the only two to my knowledge (there was also a promo video for the album)) and they can give an idea on the theme throughout the album. Nature's relationship with spirituality is what really comes to my mind from the music and the videos, maybe even mankind's relationship with these as well.

Om is truly an amazing experience, an experience that is mind-blowing. This one soars above the rest, going where no other album has gone before. Negurã Bunget has created one of the greatest recordings my ears have ever witnessed. A 100% rating doesn't come close to how good this release is, words can never describe it how it truly should be described. It is something that has to be experienced.

I’ve spent a lot of time together with this album, trying to figure the purpose behind it. You know, epic and mostly slow black metal with loads of interludes that are not interludes but musical descriptions of Romanian nature. However, listening to this is definitely not a walk in the park, or in a mountain for that matter.

I am certain the band’s means are of necessary evil, but the 10th spin brings to mind that I should perhaps program the CD and listen to the metal tracks first and foremost. Or even better, I could repeat track two over and over again since it contains more or less everything that this album is about. During the near 13 minutes of “Tesarul Du Lumini” Negura Bunget shows its capacity in full, namely great varied black metal with those effects that make the song stand out. The melody that closes the song is worth killing for.

But, then they kinda repeat this songs a few times during the album, if you see what I mean. Which is not a bad thing, it’s just that it could’ve been better. However, I sense the purpose is that as a listener I should join them on their journey through their native landscapes. And I do, by all means. The problem though is that the landscape doesn’t change and in the end is not challenging enough. I want hills and valleys, not only mountain climbing where the difference is ca 50 metres.

“OM” is a decent attempt to make something different, and there is no other band like Negura Bunget. With a bit more variation and less of the non-metal stuff, I’m sure this could’ve been closer to the classic it pretends to be. There’s a DVD that follows the special packaging. It includes clips, liveperformances and an interview. As a whole it just adds to the atmosphere, and the result is that the packaging is impressive, even though it makes too many promises.

‘Om’ is one of the most amazing albums I have ever heard in my whole life. A masterpiece that, like comets in the sky, appears only once every few years. I have waited a long time to write this review because I wanted to be sure of what I said. Sometimes you listen to an album for the first time, you think it’s very good, and after a few weeks you realise that you haven’t listened to it again. Well, in this case, that’s not what has happened. I can’t stop listening to this, and every time I do it, I keep on thinking it is a true piece of art, with no doubt among the ten or twenty best Black Metal albums I have ever heard. Some time ago, when I wrote the review of their previous album, ‘N’Crugu Bradului’, I could notice they were a very interesting band, with very original ideas and a very personal way of playing Black Metal, but I couldn’t imagine they would release something like this just three years later. Between these two albums, they released an EP called ‘Inarborat Kosmos’. If you listened to it, I think you can know more or less what this is about, as ‘Om’ could be considered as a more refined evolution of the improvements that you can already find there. NEGURA BUNGET have created a very personal, emotional, distinctive kind of Black Metal that can’t leave you untouched after listening to it. Their music is very elaborated but at the same time it keeps the necessary rawness to be dark and ominous. They have used proficiently the capacities a good recording studio has got, which joined to their musical skill, has helped them to create an album full of details and nuances, with different textures and atmospheres that will make you believe you are not at home, but in the middle of the Transylvanian forests. Some parts are in fact purely atmospheric, pure Dark Ambient music exquisitely played. Other parts, on the other hand, are fast and intense, like the song ‘De Piatra’ for example, while in every song you will find references to Romanian folk culture.. The beginning of the album is an intro with some desperate screaming voices that will make you shiver, but the rest of the album is not less emotional. All the album is indeed a marvellous voyage through the spiritual beauty of Transylvania. Definitely, if I can’t recommend this disc, then I can’t recommend anything.

Splendida. Non ci sono altri aggettivi per descrivere la nuova opera dei rumeni Negurã Bunget. Quattro anni di attesa per dare alla luce il seguito del grandioso e controverso 'N Crugu Bradului, per stupire ancora l'audience con lo stile inconfondibile della band di Timisoara, spostando oltre i confini della sperimentazione, senza perdere di vista le radici primordiali del black metal.

Alla faccia di chi ostenta a tutti i costi la propria attitudine con atteggiamenti a dir poco deprecabili, per esternare grottescamente qualcosa che è dovrebbe ardere unicamente nel profondo dell'anima, i Negurã Bunget elevano, con Om, il significato più puro del black metal. Un significato che trova nella ricerca della spiritualità il vero motivo d'essere, l'unico fine a cui tutto deve necessariamente tendere. Un moto di elevazione spirituale che parte dal basso, dalla nuda terra, per giungere alla sfera celeste. Sono proprio i Negurã Bunget a indicare il concept che permea il disco, a cominciare dalla scelta di un titolo, Om, che a discapito della propria brevità, racchiude un universo vastissimo e multiforme, teatro del percorso che chi si appresta ad ascoltare questo disco si troverà a compiere.

Il black metal, più di qualsiasi altra manifestazione artistica, vive in relazione alle sensazioni che infonde. La musica è solo un mezzo per far arrivare alla sensibilità di ognuno di noi il concetto primigenio che anima questo genere. I Negurã Bunget lo sanno bene, mostrando ancora una volta quanto sia duttile questa materia. Abili artigiani che plasmano a proprio piacimento il suono di questa purificazione, prendendoci per mano e accompagnandoci in questo cammino catartico, ricordando la nostra estrazione terrena attraverso rumori bucolici, antichi strumenti a fiato, percussioni, flauti, xilofoni, rintocchi di campane e melodie folk, e indicandoci la destinazione ultraterrena con atmosfere oniriche cupe, impenetrabili, e squarci ambient a dir poco solenni.

La classica furia black metal affiora impetuosa in questo affascinante affresco, ovviamente, perfettamente controllata dai Negurã Bunget e fatta esplodere nei momenti giusti. Il pathos è tale che non fa molta differenza ascoltare un brano completamente privo di musica come l'opener Ceasuri Rele, retta unicamente da rumori e urla strazianti, e monumenti sonori come Tesarul de Lumini, un brano di un'intensità emotiva imbarazzante che cresce minuto dopo minuto sino alla rivelazione mistica finale. La grandezza di Om sta appunto in questo, passare dall'introspezione di Primul Om, alla teatralità del chorus di Cunoaºterea Tãcutã (con un Hupogrammos Disciple's, alla voce, da pelle d'oca), due momenti assai differenti, senza smarrire quell'unicum straordinario che, come un filo di Arianna, ci guida nella comprensione del disco. Tra i ritmi tribali di Înarborat, le divagazioni strumentali di Dedesuptul, di De Piatrã, passando per i toni marziali di Norilor si è letteralmente rapiti dallo stile indefinibile dei Negurã Bunget, sperimentatori sui generis, musicisti con il cuore ben radicato nelle proprie tradizioni e con lo spirito teso all'infinito. Manca poco per completare l'opera... I dieci minuti di Cel Din Urmã Vis e la suggestiva ballata folk Hora Soarelui sono pura delizia, lasciando all'outro Al Doilea Om la conclusione di questo viaggio musicale/spirituale.

Om non è un disco per tutti, deve essere ascoltato con la massima predisposizione e apertura mentale possibile. Solo così si potranno cogliere le innumerevoli sfumature che i Negurã Bunget hanno partorito. Le parole non riescono a rendere giustizia. Celestiale, visionario, profondo. Il capolavoro è compiuto.

I like art that is "different". I like the way some artists blend media and make of their art a unique entity. Negura Bunget has given us "Om", a collection of songs and sounds that put together almost seem like a painting, mural, or even a fresco. Negura Bunget seems to like to "paint" pictures with song and sounds. This is a band that in order to describe them, I have to use a blending of catch phrases that describe different genres. Words like folk, indigenous, spiritual, ambient, drone, doom and black. The sounds and songs presented here are textural, architectural, vivid and organic.

On the outset, most people listening to this would get the impression that it is a black metal album. Oh, except for those interesting indigenous eastern European folk instruments like the horn on the fourth track "Inarborat", balalaikas and flutes on the tenth track "Hora Soarelui". What about that dreamlike spoken word, ambient thing that is the second track "Primul Om"? Listen to this album for the first time and you may be scratching your head, but this piece of art needs time, and has a way of really growing on you. Drone is done poorly quite often lately; here is a band that can do the ambient thing correctly, as it is interesting and artistic without being overly long.

Sure, there are many black metal moments on this cd. There are the tremolo guitars, layered synthesizers, rasped vocals and screams that are de-rigueur for the genre, but how about those neo-modern classical piano moments and string section bridges on songs like "Dedesuptol"? And then there are tracks like "Norilor" which could be a short movement of a symphony, complete with full timpani section, and... isn't that a glockenschpiel?

All of the songs are sung in Romanian, so I have no basis to tell what the lyrics are saying. From research of this band I have been made to deduce that they are pagans, and have a great appreciation and respect for the natural world.

This idea in itself comes through in the music as you listen, when you shut your eyes. Negura Bunget paints for you a picture with sounds, the beauty of nature as well as its cruelty, mountains in the distance covered with a fine mist and the feeling of a breeze, or sunlight, or even deep shadow on your back. The flash of brightly colored iridescent wing feathers of a bird as it flies, or the sudden discovery of a field of wildflowers, or something hidden in darkness. The music paints pictures, draws textures, and takes you on a journey into a place of dream and vision, and by doing so, closely examines our fragile and tenuous connection to our living planet.

Není black metal jako black metal. Kdo doposud považoval za vlajkonoše tohoto stylu především skandinávské smečky, bude mile překvapen velice silnou scénou na východ od naší rodné hroudy. Jistě, v bývalém komunistickém bloku, se již léta rodí kvalitní black metalová uskupení, nicméně, doposud jsem, až na výjimky, nemohl o mnohých z nich prohlásit, že do černého umění vnášejí tolik potřebné invence. Navíc, mnohé z těchto hord se ostentativně hlásí k ne zrovna liberálním ideologiím. Pokud však zavítáme do Rumunska, nesmí nám uniknout obskurní trio, temnější, než nejhlubší propasti Morie, a to NEGURĂ BUNGET.

Ačkoliv kapela svůj zrod datuje již k polovině 90. let, seriozněji se o ní hovoří až v letech posledních. Jakkoliv jsme plesali nad počiny jako "Măiastru Sfetnic" či "'n Crugu Bradului", pravá esenciální míza teče z poslední řadovky "Om".

"Om" snad ani nevzniklo za použití rockových nástrojů někde ve studiu, neboť evokuje ryzí přírodní esenci, zhmotnělou materii ducha lesa. Při poslechu devítiskladbové kolekce se má duše vznáší někde v korunách transylvánských hor, daleko od hektické civilizace. NEGURĂ BUNGET stojí pokorní vůči majestátu přírody, obklopeni tichým nočním lesem, pozorujíc mdlý měsíc, matně osvětlující koruny stromů.

Skupina využívá pestré hudební prostředky k navození potřebné katarzující atmosféry. Základní kostru tvoří bizardní blackmetalové kořeny, jež si neochvějně razí cestu každou skladbou. Na jedné straně zní kolekce pořádně zemitě, se syrovými black metalovými výpady, na druhé doslova hladí až reminiscenčními art rockovými intermezzy a introspektivními ambientními názvuky. Jakkoliv se může zdát korelace hudebních stylů a postupů nekoherentní, tak opak je pravdou. "Om" působí velice kompaktním dojmem. Každý postup zaujímá své pevné místo. Osobně sice upřednostňuji první půlku alba, hlavně manifestní 12-ti minutový opus "De Piatră" se dá přirovnat k nirváně, nicméně i druhá polovina desky skýtá své kouzlo. Skupina zde tlačí více na pilu, na druhé straně sází i na techničtější postupy. Díky této skutečnosti trvá déle, než se dostane pod kůži.

Zvuk a produkce nijak zásadně nevybočuje ze standardů minulých syrovějších nahrávek, přestože jistý posun ve zvuku je znát. Hlavním tahounem desky není ani tak produkce jako naprosto sugestivní atmosféra.
