I remember when I traded my copy of Sala Molksa away with BWD and Erik almost passed out...until I told him it was my spare. :loco:

I also owe lurch70 bigtime for getting me the original packaging for Maiastru Sfetnic, easily their darkest album IMO. Even the cover is so black. I mean, how much more black can you get?

The artwork for the original Maiastru Sfetnic is so god damn cool. Everything is pitch black but you can see shapes and shit, fuckin' rules.

I've never seen the original artwork, my original copy of Sala Molksa got lost / stolen in the mail.

According to lurch70, the guys at code666 are saying that the new NB material is turning out to be some "crazy shit". I don't know what that means exactly, but it sounds....crazy!

hehe ... you know me and my limited vocabulary. The NB boys are hard at work on a new disc. Emi promised some wacky stuff, some very special packaging once again. I think this is the release that would have to break them through ... pressure is on.
Also I have a feeling if this release is any good, they will probably end up on a bigger label soon.

...and if you haven't heard "The Taste of Victory", prepare for something TOTALLY different and unique, yet fucking sublime to no end once you get used to it. The new EP is very, very, very good.

Hope to have it soon.

now Nokturnal Mortum officially wins. Taste of Victory is wondrous.

THey certainly upped the folk influences on this one. Some moments are very upbeat.

Best packaging - Negura Bunget
Best Music - Nokturnal Mortum

NB just haven't blown me away. N Crugu is excellent, yes, but I haven't been able to appreciate the others.

NM have a catalogue full of rich, well-executed black metal that really doesn't sound like anyone else.

I dont know. Maybe because NM use the keys way too much from what I have heard. Which albums have the least keyboards incorporated?

NB earlier albums take a little time to sink in because they are so rough production-wis eimo. Once they grab hold though, they are magnificently adventurous.

NeChrist and Taste of Victory don't sound as polished as pre-NSBM efforts, so maybe those who defer from keyboards might like the newer stuff from NM. Taste...packaged in a DVD case is ridiculous IMO since it doesn't even come with a booklet or anything. Shit, I have listened to that since last year.

Still, doesn't change my vote. I think NB are better songwriters - I just don't think NM are going to get any better whereas NB are only on the verge of something magnificent.

I think Taste of Victory is a tremendous step forward for NM. It is most certainly different from the last couple of releases. If the rest of their new album is like the first three songs of ToV, then we'll be in for a treat.

What? "Taste of Victory" is "less polished" than "Goat Horns?" It's just about the most polished release this side of Stratovarius. What are you smoking and did you know you're not supposed to pour the ashes into your ears?
Yeah, I'm serious. Keyboards taken right to the back of the mix, slightly muddy, and not as anthemic sounding as, say, Lunar Poetry. Listening to track #1, and the bass sounds louder than the guitars. That's no Finnvox sound. Pretty cool stuff, I'd forgotten it was this good.

It has a "different" production but it's clear as all fuck, and every instrument can be heard (the synths are SUPPOSED to be in the bakground)
Yeah, I know. I like it.

whereas the guitar sound on "Goat Horns" sounds like cheap Stratocaster clones into practice amps turned up to 10 (practice amps don't go to 11) which is probably not far from the truth either.
Not much better sounding on NeChrist either. The keyboards sound like they were recorded in a big empty hall, and the guitars on practice amps in a small toilet. And the drums sound like someone tearing paper into pieces.

I think ToV is great. It's fiercely original too; while it's possible to draw comparisons to epic Bathory and Graveland stuff there's NOTHING that sounds quite like it.
Yeah, it is good. Probably their best since it's so pure sounding. All NM is good, however. I think I still like Lunar Poetry the best -- musically and probably because it was the first NM I got a couple of years ago -- even with all it's nasty hiccups in the recording.
