I think the theory that it's a collaboration between many different artists makes more sense than just a band. Of course there are only a few people playing on the albums, or else it would sound inconstant, but the song writing and lyrics might be done by quite a few different people. It would also explain why they want their identities unknown, so it's not only a few people taking credit for the work of many. The entire French black metal scene could have a hand in this...
