Yes, I am in a "catch 22" with that as it "just does it" - I hate it as well.
Soon enough, will not need to worry about that any more though... you're going to love the new mobile version of the site (I do!).
EDIT: Actually try it now, I just went ahead and yanked the line of code (we'll see if tapatalk users want to kill me now!). You shouldn't get any more popups.
