I usually have the same problem, that's why I love my EBMM Petrucci, the volume control is placed near the edge of the body.

Back on topic, that guitar looks fuckin' nice, even with the maple fretboard.

Anyone besides me take the knob off entirely?

Picked that one up from Robb Flynn. Don't know how healthy it is for the guitar but it works for me.
