If you were hoping they might return to form, forget it. Based on the new three song promo, if you liked "Reroute to Remain" than you'll love the new one.

No. He still reminds me of Elmer Fudd. I'm not sure what he and the band is thinking. With a band like Soilwork, I can almost understand it, as Strid has a cool clean voice. But Anders is just horrible.npearce said:Please tell me the clean vocals have improved. I'm embarressed for him.
Yep, I pretty much figured that would be the case, despite the early hype I've heard about a return to the 'Clayman' style. I'll take someone I know and trust's point of view anyday over general internet hype banter.General Zod said:If you were hoping they might return to form, forget it. Having only heard three songs, it's hard to damn the CD. I would say that the songs sound like a BIT of return to the "Clayman" sound. I'd say, after one listen, they sound like they'd fit better on "Reroute" than they would on "Clayman". Personally, I was hoping for a return to the "Whoracle" sound.Dark One said:Yep, I pretty much figured that would be the case, despite the early hype I've heard about a return to the 'Clayman' style. Fuck me, that is harsh. I love it.Demonspell said:If In Flames is the soundtrack to my escape, keep me locked up.
I use to think that In Flames was one of the truly great live bands, until their last tour. I saw them twice on the "Reroute" tour. At the 1st show they were mediocre, at the second show they were boring.JayKeeley said:Soilwork comparisons?? From what I gather, the new In Flames material works pretty well live. Kudos to them being great live performers (whether you like their new music or not).
Soilwork is fairly dull live. However, I was commenting on In Flames studio work, and comparing it to Soilwork's studio work. On CD, Strid has superb clean vox, Anders doesn't.JayKeeley said:On the other hand, I've NEVER heard a good word said about Soilwork in a live environment, only telling me that they are very 'studio dependent'.
Well, a return to the form that I would like. I know many may disagree, but I thought "Jester Race" kind of sucked.JayKeeley said:I also think it's hysterical that a "return to form" for In Flames would mean going back to Clayman!!! Or Whoracle!!?. I mean, maybe I'm wrong, but to me, a return to form would at least resemble a "Moonshield" type song-writing style, let alone "Upon an Oaken Throne"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah. I've never had a bad time at any In Flames' show save for when they opened for Slayer. (They definitely picked the wrong material for a 5 song set opening for the thrash legends). But every other show I've ever been to by them has pretty much ruled - they absolutely brought the house down at Wacken last year, despite Friden's continued wannabe rock star god attitude. I don't know what happened to him along the way, but I'm convinced that he and his dreadlocks are the main current problem with the band.JayKeeley said:Soilwork comparisons?? Well... I never said "return to form would mean going back to Clayman", just a "return to the Clayman style". My favorite is still "The Jester Race", "Whoracle", "Colony" era, but I loved "Clayman" as well, so would welcome a new one that has a sound in that mold.JayKeeley said:I also think it's hysterical that a "return to form" for In Flames would mean going back to Clayman!!! I only saw them at Wacken, which I guess counts as R2R tour, but they did bring it fo' sho'. I've always found In Flames to be a quality live band, even if I would always have major gripes with the setlists...General Zod said:I use to think that In Flames was one of the truly great live bands, until their last tour. Soilwork is teh suX0r live. I mean, so bad it's not teh funnay. But yeah, Strid does have quality (studio-enhanced) clean vox though. Unfortunately, he's the only musician I've met who is a bigger prick than Anders.Soilwork is fairly dull live. Actually, I would hope for a return to the "Whoracle" sound more than "Clayman" as well, but I think it would be more realistic at this point if you're going to hope for any new IF album sound like an older one to hope for the "Clayman" style. But yeah, "Jotun", "Gyroscope", "Jester Race Transfigured" and "The Hive" just completely blow anything they're currently doing out of the water.General Zod said:Having only heard three songs, it's hard to damn the CD. Wow, a surprising opinion that anyone's entitled to have, but man, I consider that album to be, if not the greatest, at least in the top 3 melodic death metal albums of all time.General Zod said:Well, a return to the form that I would like. I've only listened to it once or twice, but it just didn't grab me. If I happen to run across if again, I'll make it a point to give it another spin.Dark One said:Wow, a surprising opinion that anyone's entitled to have, but man, I consider that album to be, if not the greatest, at least in the top 3 melodic death metal albums of all time.
