I've only listened to it once or twice, but it just didn't grab me. If I happen to run across if again, I'll make it a point to give it another spin.

How can you say it sucked if you've only heard it once or twice?!

Dude, it fucking owns.

Well, because generally speaking, I don't continue to listen to music that I think sucks. For the most part, I prefer to listen to music that I enjoy. Strange, ehh?:Spin:

Well, a return to the form that I would like. I know many may disagree, but I thought "Jester Race" kind of sucked.

Well... I never said "return to form would mean going back to Clayman", just a "return to the Clayman style".
My bad guys. When I read "return to form", I interpreted that as "return to roots", which is not what you were saying...oops!

LOL, no arguments whatsoever there. I'll tell ya though, there are definitely some cd's that I do not realize how much I enjoy until I spin it like 4 or 5 times. The first IF song I ever heard was "Goliaths Disarm Their Davids" and I was like "That music sounds cool, but those growling style vocals - I dunno if I could ever get into them." 4 spins later and I went out and bought the entire IF catalogue the next day. The Jester Race was the first full length I focused on, and was blown away. That album, along with Opeth's Morningrise, opened an entire universe of music in the extreme realm I never thought I could possibly appreciate, let alone love.

It's true that some cd's grab you or make you go "UGH" right away and you can realize very quickly what your ulitmate opinion will be. But don't always be so quick to dismiss, you never know how the evolution of your tastes will affect what may not have previously grabbed you.

Of course, for many other cd's, a turd will always remain just that. :)

The Jester's Race is one of those albums that has grown and grown with each successive listen. Started off boring, and now 50+ listens later... it's less boring. :D

The Jester Race was great at the beginning, but I can't make it through all the way now. THe only two songs worth the time are Moonshield and Dead Eternity.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately, there is so much new music being released these days, it's hard to give each CD 4-5 spins. If you did that with every CD, you'd spend more time listening to music you don't than to music that you do like.

Generally, I'll listen to the first three tracks on a disc. If it at all interests me, I'll listen to the whole disc. Often however, based on either the amount of hype a disc generates or based on the recommenation of someone whose musical opinion I respect, I'll revisit a CD that I had previously dismissed. Case it point, given how much you, Mark and Ali all dig "Jester Race", I'll give it another chance or two to win me over.

I know what you mean. I guess my philosophy is more of a "fantasy world" notion than a reality notion. My solution recently has simply been to buy less cd's and revisit many older titles I either didn't listen to enough or at all the first time around.

Cool, I can relate to that as well. Case in point - I purchased Thryfing's 'Urkraft' long before I realized how highly Mark had thought of that album. I spun it once or twice when I first bought it, having it on more or less in the background while doing some chores rather than giving it my undivided attention. I enjoyed what I heard, but it didn't really grab me as it was basically yet another example of a cd in a whole stack of unlistened to cd's. Later, when Mark indicated that it was basically his favorite Viking Metal album, I went back and gave it more attention, and yep, pretty much ended up loving it as well.

As a result I also revisited some other Viking Metal albums I owned from Moonsorrow and Windir, and suddenly, my whole interest in the sub-genre was completely re-energized, and I ended up buying a whole slew of other cd's along the same lines (many recommended by Mark and JayKeeley). All this because I went back and revisited one little cd based on how highly one of us thought of it. You just never know. :)

Eh... about half joking, half serious...

And I doubt I got the wrong impression if the 30 seconds told me that I liked it!
Not necessarily, if that 30 seconds is in the form of a killer intro or something, with the rest of the album not really following form (i.e. Helloween's 'Better Than Raw').

Dude - I hope you've invested in some Falkenbach by now. Knowing your tastes, you'll be happy with any of the three releases.

Definitely. They were at the top of my list of recomnendations you guys had given me. I need to pick up their other releases, but I bought and listened to "...Magni Blandinn Ok Megintiri" rather extensively and was very, very impressed. So basically "En Their Medh Riki Fara..." and "Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty" are no brainers then eh? :headbang:
