New logic is out!!

Do a lot of reading before you start. Get a list of your PC's components. Find out their device ID's from the OSX86 wiki. You may need to hack some key extensions to get your shit to work; but if it is all Intel, then most likely it will work straight out the box. Graphic cards tend to be the biggest challenge in my experience.

One piece of advice; partition your OS hard-drive in two. Make one a Kalyway install, and the other a vanilla. Use the Kalyway install as a maintenance partition, and the vanilla as your working OS. Should things fail with your working OS, you'll have Kalyway available to do any backup/repair work.

Finally, use either Boot-132 or Chameleon 2.0. Don't know what these are? Go to InsanelyMac and do some research.

Hi there, I want to upgrade from LOgic Studio 8, would you recommend me to make a clean install unistalling 8 or will it be right installing over the 8 itself???
I was thinking in installing the audio content in an external drive...

Thanks in advance guys.
Manuel.

Logic 9 will install "beside" Logic 8 if it is already present on the system. and Logic 8 will still run, so no need to un-install it.

indeed, you need to do a lot of research before taking the plunge.
on the subject of graphics cards, i need to point out that unless your card supports "Quartz Extreme", then Logic will not install or run. so thats one more niggle that needs to be taken into account.

Installing OSX on a PC can be a living nightmare, seriously. my first install took
over a week of solid 5-hour nights to get it working fully. im glad i got through it but there is no doubt that if i had the money i'd spare myself a lot of grief and just buy a real mac.

good luck to anyone going the hackintosh route! :)

InsanelyMac.com is the main source of info I used. I bought all my parts from NewEgg, other than the video card I got from JBroll (I bought his old Sapphire/ATI card, took a bit of hacking to get OpenGL/Quartz Extreme working, so I definitely recommend NVidia cards for easier Hackintoshing.)

Generally, the closer you stick to the parts that Apple actually uses, the easier time you will have (Intel processors FTW.) Antec cases are awesome, "Antec wins at life" as JBroll once told me.

Truly, Antec cases do win. The last machine I built had an Antec Twelve Hundred... pure fucking sexy. If you don't see how it's possible to go mad over a case, you haven't seen the Twelve Hundred.

Just got the upgrade installed,
i am a happy camper.

seems to be even more cpu efficient, and "feels" snappier. slightly improved graphics too, better contrast and easier to see what is selected.
haven't had time to really fuck around with it but the flex-audio feature seems to work really well.

i've got 2 mixes to do during the week so i'll really put it through its paces then. will report back.

On the flipside though, mine took two nights. I didn't have any guides to follow though, I had to piece information together from InsanelyMac. If I had the money, I'd follow a DAW guide by a guy called "PeachOS" on the InsanelyMac forums; his build seems solid judging by a friends machine.

Thanks, i'll look that up.
Probably in the next year or so i will assemble a "perfect" hackintosh to replace the frankenstein dell hackintosh i'm using now.
i suppose the point is that the difficulty of installation will vary greatly according to the peculiarities of your specific hardware. that wouldn't be an issue if building from scratch but most people who are curious about hackintosh will be attempting to install on their own existing machines.

if i were to re-install OS X tonight it would probably only take 2 hours to get done, but the first time was a very steep learning curve. the worst part was getting the graphics card to work fully.

If Apple did a machine that wasn't overpriced and wasn't a piece of shit (ie: iMacs) then I certainly would buy a Mac. But until they are forced to sell a mac for £600 that has the same type of feature set as the Mac Pro's do, I'm not in the position to buy a Mac.

I had a 2008 Macbook Pro, (the old design still) with NV8600MGT... Sold that to a friends GF for 1100€, with that money I bought a Quadcore Q9450, 4gb ram, 1TB HDD, 8800GT, Corsair PSU, Antec case, all passive heatsinks in gpu and cpu, zero noise. Like what the fuck? And that POS MBP couldn't sit on my lap because it would BURN the shit out of my legs... oh and the MBP costed 1700€ or something... go figure

Speaking of which, I read the other day that because of the heat from laptops, actually putting them on our lap's is very bad for our unborn children! :yow: Something to keep in mind!

It's about as bad as going in a jacuzzi as often, which people often say also is bad for your sperm count.

I figure... I got kicked enough times in elementary and middle school to warrant my balls being nearly invincible if I'm still fertile now!
