new mastodon?

i was this close ----> <--- to getting this the other day, ended up with taake and deathspell omega instead...i don't regret the purchase but i sort of walked out wanting this more than before

I have a feeling they're going to have the vocals WAAAAAAAY down in the mix for this tour.

Crack the Skye is definitely out of their comfortable vocal element...
oblivion sounds better than i expected, but the vocals have always been their weakest point, especially live. they cant even do a lot of the 'dirty' vocals that well, let alone the cleans, and now they'll probably half-ass them even more to save their voices. i wonder how good the cleans will sound after a few weeks on the road haha. their playing is always flawless though, great live band overall. i think they need some echo or delay or whatever they put on vocals to make em sound better and more like the record.

ps - he isn't as "in your face" on Crack The Skye.
one of the reasons Remission fully crushes Crack the Skye

hmm, this is actually kind of cool. not really my cup of tea. however, it doesn't seem to suck nearly as bad as leviathan

I loved Remission. I was just so disappointed by Leviathan I had trouble giving them another chance. Where Strides the Behemoth is an awesome track. I remember hearing it on some Relapse sampler some years ago and I couldn't get enough of it. Leviathan was just a waste of shelf-space and I proceeded to give it away one day after purchase.

Threw on Leviathan to spite Acie, to the neighbors delight. What is there not to like about these vocals?!? Blood & Thunder & Iron Tusk are instant headbanging classics.

I fucking love the chorus
Lower soul sent with gifts offering
Teeth of hope travel with
Child laid next to mother

which is is proceeded by riffs so monstrous, it would take Krigloch forty nights to larp a line as mammoth.

:kickass: :kickass: This is music to have a meat fest to!

Has anyone heard The Taste of Chaos Ensemble Performs Mastodon's Leviathan ?

Holy fuck! I am always weary of these string tribute albums but this is REALLY fucking SMOKING!!!

This album doesn't have much replay value. Not very memorable riffs.

i am actually agreeing here ...

there are some cool vocal hooks here and there, but otherwise after the initial few spins of wonderment ... its not something that will stick with me for long.

its no Mindcrime in terms of "having it all"

Your mom doesn't have much replay value. Not very many memorable positions. Not worth the $1,500. :erk:

Well if you do the math correctly, my mom's sexual prowess outmatches Mastodon's replay value on the new one.

Crack the Skye - $15
Crackin' dat ass - $1500

Buy Crack the Skye and get a couple of good spins.
Crack dat ass and I'm working my way through college thanks solely to you.
