Hello, I have been reading the forums for a while and have been a fan of Orphaned Land since about April when i first discovered Mabool. I have since picked up The Beloved's Cry and really enjoy both cds a lot! I really like to bring Mabool into the weightroom when I go to lift weights. People have found it very interesting, but kind of shocking I think too.

I really like the Middle-Eastern instruments and the whole feel of the cd. This year I have started learning Biblical Hebrew so listening to the Hebrew parts of the cd is really cool for me, it brings a sense of awe to hear.

Mabool is definitely one of my favorite cds that I own, and I have a good amount. It will be tough though, to decide if I think 2004's best cd was it or else Haggard's Eppur Si Muove. Both are excellent in all regards.

Now, I do have a question unrelated...for college during January I am going on a trip to Greece and Turkey. Unfortunately when Orphaned Land are playing in Greece I will be in Turkey...how sad! But I am wondering, are there strong anti-American feelings there? Are there any typical "American" ways of acting that other people find disgusting? I want to spend my nights wandering around if I can, and I don't want people to hate me or anything like that.

Or are there certain types of clothes that are more acceptable to wear?

Thank you!

Well... 1st of all - welcome, Turthalion.
About clothing... I'd suggest something generally unnoticable, low profile clothing... no hysterical colors and similar shit...
But then again, what would I know, I never was to Turkey :)

welcome in mate :)
I think that turkey has no more anti-american feelings" then any pther place. You`ll rarely see `em and even if you`ll find some poster of protest - it`ll be against george bush and not the american people. It`ll probably be somehting with socialist smell on it I think.

Anyway mate. If the band and I wandered in Istanbul talking hebrew fearless, be sure that you`ll have little probles there :)

Istanbul is a hell of a city !! you`ll never have enough time to enjoy all of it !

anti- amercian ???? i wonder
u know my friend well am american too ...i live in lebanon i know way from ur trip field but i just wantyou to know that the middle east is very safe area specialy the eastern coast ..so see my friend i ve bein here 7 years for now and never had a prob for bein an american ... the people here are anti-bush
like emirkarasakal said .. i my self hate this man ..for he put the states in danger bcz of hiz stupid policy ..well i dont want it to sound like talkin politiks ...but believe me it s a very peacefull place and very secure ...so welcome to the middle east my friend  :Spin: and even thou u ll not catch the band ..think bout the idea that the band performed on this ground .. it s a great feeling
forever orphaned land :headbang:

Hi Turthalion,

vote for Kerry and you won't have any problems :Spin:

Just kidding, don't believe all that US News nertworks propaganda...like the others said, it's always anti Bush - not anti US!

Last year I was in Istanbul and in Beirut with a friend from NYC and it was great, friendly people everywhere...hey, even in Teheran two years ago we didn't have any problems :)

Never, ever believe Fox News :D ...and enjoy Istanbul, amazing city.

hi again, and thank you for the advice! don't worry about my politics, i actually have already voted by sending my vote in to my home state, and i didn't vote for Bush or Kerry, but for a smaller 3rd party candidate. i just don't like Bush or Kerry at all as far as their policies go...but enough politics.

i try to get all my news from the BBC so that i don't get too much of an American bias, and i haven't been seeing anything problematic, so i'm getting really excited for my trip.

i'll be in istanbul for 4 days i think, going to the Hagia Sophia and a lot of other places. what would be some cool things to check out on my free time at night?

also, would i as a tourist have trouble finding more "local" stores? i really want to pick up some old literature, particularly in greece. maybe some cool weapons too...

anyway, thanks for the welcome! i look forward to continue reading and posting here.

Great! That's the metal thing to do:headbang:

Hi there,

Great that you're going to Turkey. I was there for the first time this summer to go to the RTN show. Like you- I had no idea what to dress like, but I found that there were many people in the streets who were wearing metal shirts. So even if you look like a metalhead, you won't be conspicuous!
There are lots of nice metlabars all around Taksim square, but you do have to know where to look. I just asked some guys who were wearing metalshirts in the streets and they showed me some nice places to go.
People are generally very friendly and go out of their way to help you- especially if you're of the same kind ( aka also wearing black)
Istanbul is a big and very modern city and I'm sure you'll have a great time there.

Greetings,
Nathalie.

TRUTHALION .... i can say nothin else i guess all my friends here explained enough ... so :
welcome my friend ( usa)
epharisto file mou ( greek)
salam ( arabik also used in turkey right my turkish friend ??)
shalom ( the orphaned land :headbang: )
enjoy ur trip

My friend...Be sure that we don't have an "anti-american" ideas (I have never had...)
And I can guarantee, everyone will be polite to you.About dress?Don't think about that dress what you like...No one will take care with it...You're free, you can see a big metal society in İstanbul also in all cities of Turkey. They will help you...you won't bore or have problem in Turkey,I'm sure...

Türkiye'ye hoşgeldin!!!!

My friend, be sure you will have no problem in terms of clothing, drinking, acting, expressing yourself etc. in any way in Istanbul or in any other area of Turkey. Just ask the kids with with black T-shirts what you are looking for. They will welcome you! Visit Yerebatan Cistern (near Hagia Sophia) which is built over an energy field. You will certainly feel an enormous amount of vital energy there!
Greetings to all friends from Ankara, Turkey!!!

the people wearing black tshirts are not the only friendly people! there are many other friendly people here, too :) especially since you are a tourist everybody will try to help you even if they don't know english :)
i think same social rules apply to every nation.
so i don't think any "american" behaviour would be irritating to anybody (unless you get into political conversations :) )

thank you for the responses! i'm really looking forward to being in greece and turkey. it's too bad I know no arabic...i'd like to ideally be able to speak some in the language of the places i'm going to, but i don't know if i have time to fit any arabic in, i've got three other languages i'm working on right now.

i just would feel like a jerk expecting people to help me around in english...ideally i should accomodate myself to their language i would think.

but now i will not worry too much about offending people with too american of a dress style or anything, so thank you for fixing that fear of mine.

Well, everyone in Turkey speak Turkish so knowing arabic would benefit you none in Turkey. Most people you might need to speak would most probably know english, better or worse.
