New Metallica...$9.99...At Best Buy

Just bought the new Metallica at Best Buy for only $9.99(on Sale)...........it comes in a cool Digi-pack, that holds 2 discs, one the album, the other a DVD, of them at their rehearsal studio, playing the entire album. I already know it has to be better than Load & Re-Load, so I'll give it a chance. I was not going to pay full price.........

I got it today @ Tower Records for $10. I just heard the whole thing the whole way through. It has it's moments, but overall , it has alot of nu-metal influence. But aside from that , I think the thing I'm most shocked with is that it does NOT sound that produced at all. I mean the drums , guitars , bass, and vocals sound "demo-ish". The drums especially. Lars snare sounds extremely resonant and like he's beating a metal drum in a cave. Guitar sound is very "fuzzy", very SOAD-ish sounding. Does not have that tight crunch whatsoever. It is miles ahead of Load , and Re-load so I've got to give it some credit. But the good thing is that I wasn't expecting to have the doors blown off or anything. I think the coolest thing about it is the packaging and the DVD. I love DVD's. Plus I love LIVE MUSIC. So the songs sound better on the DVD because they are live. What do the LEGIONS think of the cd?

Since it's safe to assume it'll turn up used, I may wait till that happens, but then again my curiostity must be satiated...and look what happened when I tried to satiate curiosity with Load.

I juste got back from a jam with my friends and we jammed St Anger ... the song of course..

Here is the funny thing, we actually made it sound like hell Instead of "let ring" chords here and there, we palm-mutted the whole thing with the same notes and it sound like a brick thrown right through your face... Instead of singing like Hetfield does, I gave it a bit of crunch like on the And justice album... Damn...

With good distortion, a good snare sound and some long haired friends... this song has potential

If I ever find a way to record this is a good quality, I'll post it somewhere... It's really impressive how some palm mutting and some harmonics thrown here and there can make a weak song turn crushing

This will DEFINITELY be a factor....good assumption. Maybe I'll go in on it with someone for the used one...$3.50 apiece could be justified for the dvd anyway. I heard the entire album played on the local rock station today and all I have to say is I'm still in shock

the whole time I was thinking...is this some kind of sick joke? I doubt Bob Rock will ever work again in this industry. I'm going to go mourn the loss of one of the greats and cry now...

I've been freaking about the horrible production since I heard St Anger a week and a half ago! You're right HL I think it sounds like a demo too. I don't exactly think there will be metal bands chomping at the bit the have Bob Rock produce for them...he may have just sealed his coffin...this was his chance to prove to the world that he was legitimate...bummer for you Bob The thing that kills me is the fact that a band as seasoned as Metallica allowed it to happen (like you said) not only is the sound horrible, but the songs are completely random and don't appear to go anywhere..something that should probably be a factor in the beginning stages of the songwriting process...not in the finished product


It's a sad day in the world of metal folks

Oh well...at least the new NEVERMORE is coming out next week...now that is gonna be one heavy kick ass mutha!!!!

OMFG! I was listening to it this morning on my way in to my office. I couldn't believe the sound. You are right. Sounds like a fucking demo. I will also admit that after the second song started, I hit the skip button. So far, I'm not impressed.
