new Metallica song posted

I have to admit I'm actually kind of excited for this album, which I haven't been able to say about them in a long time...their strategy of releasing all the little snippets of songs definitely got me interested again, and this song is pretty good. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. Oh and to those complaining about the sound quality, as far as I know this is unmastered.
 
Just out of curiosity...this is a question no Slipknot fan has ever been able to answer for me.

Pretty much every Slipknot fanboy masterbates over Joey's drumming. "OMG HE IS THE BEST DRUMMER ALIVE!!!!!"

If he's so fucking good, why do they need 3 drummers to do percussion work that really isn't all that special?
 
You just have to see Slipknot live to really experience their music at their best and to really understand what the percussionists really add to their music. I never said he was the best drummer alive, but he is damned good. I would have to go with dirk verbeuren, van williams, asgeir mickelson, johan(ex-pain of salvation), john macaluso, and others over Joey, but he is up there with them. I wish slipknot would do more stuff with the 2 percussionists like they do on psychosocial and the blister exists, but i will admit they could do more, but what is wrong with less is more on some issues, they don't have to be tito puente or giovanni hidalgo.
 
It sounds very, very tired and worn out. Lets be honest with ourselves the majority of old school fans have been waiting for a disc in the line of master of P. This isnt it. I think it is like anything in life once you have been away too long you loose it. They need to bow out. What little bit of fast rythems near the end of the song sounded terrible. And what is up with this production? It sounds like a well done indie. I want to say "wow" the thrash kings have returned after 20 years! But that will never happen,. This was the last chance for them to return to true form with a retro thrash movement going on ect, they could have done something awsome. But that just hasnt happened. No shock for me, they have sucked since Cliffs death. To much good thrash out now to concern about it.
 
So I decided to buy the single from iTunes just to see if maybe the web stream was crudded up......nope.

I really don't know what the heck Lars, Rick Rubin or whoever were thinking with this snare sound. It's absolutely terrible. It's overdriven to the point that you think your own player EQ is cranked on the high end accidentally, and it sticks out like a sore thumb with the rest of the music. I actually like the guitar sound and kick sound, vocals, etc. but this snare... mama mia...
 
I have mixed opinions about this song. There are things about it that I love, and others that I hate. I still need to listen to it a bit more to make my decision.

Again, I agree with you on the Power Metal look, hell, most metal bands almost always look silly as hell.

I liked about 2 songs off of Slipknot's first album, it was more of a "oh, look, they are so angry and their masks are weird"-type of thing, which is mostly why kids listen to them in the first place. That really doesn't inspire respect in me. If I wanna see 9 people give a good live show, I go see Therion, cause the 9 or so members actually contribute to the whole band's sound and it is music that takes time and effort to write/play. Not some douchebag banging on a tin can and masturbating his big phallic nose.


Now, i'm not knocking your tastes, far from it. I just kinda reacted badly to the whole "Slipknot is the real deal" or whatever it was you said. They are as corporate as Metallica.

During the opening vocal passages, I really truly thought that was Lars whining instead of James. But I would have been surprised if they'd have let Lars do vocals on a track. :Puke:

And just because it needs to be said "it needs more cowbell".

I see that I'll be continuing my post-black-album disinterest with them.
 
I don't think they are corporate at all, but hey, that is me, and their new cd to me tells me they aren't. You can hear their influences shining through and I believe they do have their own thing going on. I hear their death influence on vendetta, and I definately can hear Joey paying respects to Portnoy and Bozzio on a couple of parts, but that is probably just me. But I know everybody else here would say the same things about Mudvayne, and I happen to like them as well. I liked their third cd, but the first 2 are great in my opinion, and he can sing his off as well.

"The source of the problem, as you might imagine, goes all the way back to the creation of the track from master — but this is not how it will sound on the album.

"We've identified the source of the problem to prevent it in any subsequent singles released in advance of September 12.

"If we can have another one put together and sent out prior to that date, there may be a higher-quality release of 'The Day That Never Comes' made available, but I can't guarantee it at this time."
