New Metallica

Without thrash, no Megadeth!

I find very little thrash element in Megadeth...never considered them thrash...a touch too sophisticated musically. Speed metal is what I would call them. RIP thrash? Countdown thrash? Youthanasia thrash? I don't see it.

Metal Church gets props, but I agree with Zach...that's old school metal...with thrash elements.

If I never hear another blast beat with "vocalist" simply shouting over a riff, I'll be just fine...ala Exodus, Testament, etc., etc.

Ah, the No True Scotsman fallacy..."it's complex, therefore not thrash." :goggly:

Nah, Megadeth helped define thrash. Listen to bands like Forbidden. Incredibly complex and talented musicians, great vocals, etc.

just take 6 minutes of your life to appreciate great thrash.

According to NME.com, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has rejected fans' claims that their new album Death Magnetic is too loud, and that the version available via the 'Guitar Hero' video game is superior.

Thousands of fans have taken to the internet to complain, but Ulrich - the first member of Metallica to speak publicly on the issue - disagrees.

“Listen, there’s nothing up with the audio quality," he said. "It’s 2008, and that’s how we make records."

Speaking to Blender, Ulrich added: "(Producer) Rick Rubin’s whole thing is to try and get it to sound lively, to get it sound loud, to get it to sound exciting, to get it to jump out of the speakers. Of course, I’ve heard that there are a few people complaining. But I’ve been listening to it the last couple of days in my car, and it sounds fuckin’ smokin'."
Then Lars, your ears are fucked

Actually, I mean, just being fair, I'll bet they probably ARE fucked. He has been a metal drummer for like 30 years now.

Granted, he's wrong. But he probably can't hear it.

Minus the sound issues, I really do love the new album. It may not be the most original, mind-blowing work of metal history - but it sounds like Metallica and at this point in their career I think it's the best we're gonna get.

"Broken, Beat & Scarred," "All Nightmare Long," and "The Judas Kiss" are currently rocking my face off.

Although they really did themselves a disservice in track ordering, because tracks 1 and 10 are entirely forgettable and pretty lame.

Regardless of what other people think...I haven't liked Metallica since King Nothing which was mediocre itself.

It's like this, I love good music, metal, prog etc... and for what it is, being standard hard rock/metal or what have you, its a decent album. There are a few bad songs on it but for the most part I like the album for what it is; I'd give it a B+.

-awaits next Symphony X album for 5 more years-

Ill agree with this, i think those are probably the best tracks on the album.

I finally got a chance to listen to the album, and although it's not the most imaginative work Metallica's done, I do have to give them props for getting back in touch with their roots and giving their fans what they've wanted for years now.

Since there's been other great metal to listen to, it's understandable why new Metallica might not be such exciting news. My interest in Metallica has wained over the years, but I found this one an enjoyable listen (aside from the obvious volume issue). I like "All Nightmare Long" as well.
