New moderator

Curt has my confidence, as ever.

And mine as well. However, per his wishes, it seems prudent to select someone else.

I would gladly support most of our frequent members (notably Oldscratch and Cythraul).

As it stands, I vote in favor of Scourge of God.

edit: a little slow with this post, speed beat me to it.

There's really no regular I wouldnt support. Seriously, I dont see many or any problems with any of the regulars becoming moderators (Old Scratch, Cythrual, Derbeder, Seditious,Scourge, Norsemaiden,Έρεβος, and more I'm forgetting).

And Justin is an excellent co-moderator to have (the flattery, sorry), and I'm serious.

Yep, Justin turned out quite fine, despite my worry he'd strap on boots and leather jacket each day as he visited the forum.

Lets just make all us regulars moderators! Would solve all moderation issues into the far future! :p

Truly, the regulars seem to get along; we only need moderators to keep the idiots at bay.

Plus, and I say this as modestly as possible, with the exception of Herr Prozak himself, I may very well be the most controversial and unpopular 'character' in the online metal community. I'm not sure you need a polarizing figure with his name on the letterhead.

I agree with the Scourge here ;) Regardless of how good a job is done, his other postings will colour opinion (from others) on matters of moderation.

There seems to be a fair bit of moderator turnover / discussion on this fairly small forum... is it necessary or useful? Is there a reason to remove the capacity from Nile? Would seem more effective to just add mods as needed and only remove the capacity as needed. I agree that pretty much any regular will be fine though, with an exception or two :p

Scourge of God, Έρεβος Speed, or OldScratch are my choices.
Scourge - just remember that if you don't do it, then someone over-censorious just might.

Well, since Ive gone through this process before, is everyone going to start voting, or should Nile and Justin S just choose a new moderator?

Indeed, there is. Everyone will get a chance to be moderator!

This seems an entirey sensible suggestion. And again, if any "regulars" see anything here completely innapropriate or out of line - they can always try to guide the poster in a better direction, or simply notify one of the Mods. asap if things cannot be rectified otherwise.

Well, if there is an election, I vote for one of the four (derbeder, Old Scratch, Cythraul, or blowtus--all regulars, sure of themselves, and knowledgable enough). It'll probably come down to who wishes to do it in either case (election, or appointment) anyway.

Hmm. I had actually already sent Russell a PM asking to instate Scourge of God as moderator. Are there objections to this?

No. As per Speed's post below, I don't see the Scourge's apparent controversial nature as a reason to disallow him the Mod spot. I welcome it...is not dissent and even unpleasant embroilment not the heart of meaningful discourse? If we cannot collectively abide the Scourge's decidedly blunt and perhaps even over-the-top delivery, what right have we to wax genuinely philosophical in this cynical age here?

I see a distinction between the role of 'moderator' and that of 'UM philosophizer' myself... I think the usual convention of appointing reasonably neutral parties to positions of control / peace keeping exists for a decent reason, and while it need not be adhered to to the nth degree, I see no reason to disregard it in this case.

I don't want to have upset the process unnecessarily with my somewhat late sally into it though  I don't feel strongly on it. If voting is occurring, Speed, Oldscratch, and Seditious have mine. (Talk about an oxymoronic statement!) If voting isn't occurring - I'm happy too ;)

No, no, I have no interest in moderation. But I forgot about seditious. I think he'd do a fine job too.
